captaintau Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 While browsing Woolworths last week, my attention was drawn to an Exo Force set and it got me thinking. I make no attempt to hide that my LEGO love is Star Wars, and I've enjoyed a bit of Batman, but the EF line looks interesting. Now, tell me if I'm typing rubbish, but isn't there a back story to EF - like goodies vs badies. Each character using a machanical exo-frame to do war. So, presumably there's a back story to it all. Please enlighten me. Quote
xenologer Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I consider the story to be that at one time there was a futuristic society (seemingly inspired by japanese culture and philosophy) where humans live lives of luxury thanks to Robot Worker technology. Eventually an experimental robot with an advanced Learning program becomes sentient 'alive' in a sense and spreads his programming to other robots (mecha one, the gold robot). They realize that they are essentially slaves, and decide to rebel against the humans. So the storyline is about the freedom fighter robots, versus human oppressors. Except, most of the story is set far into the conflict where the humans are now almost defeated. And the focus is on the individual human character development rather than the background of the war. Thus the humans are portrayed as the 'good guys', and the robots as the 'bad guys'. Pretty much the same background as Animatrix Second Renaissance... Anyhow, I personally don't like the simplistic good-vs-evil storyline that the comics are trying to portray... as you can see above the morality of each side is a large gray area...(yes, the humans claim the robots 'malfunctioned' but its a cover-up I tell you! designed to solidify their cause) :-) For my own EF MOCs I stay away from the comics but retain that basic background premise... gives you much more room to work with, and a lot less silly Quote
dillthepill Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Welcome to the Space and Mecha forum. :-P Sure, all the info you need should probably be here at wikipedia. Quote

xenologer Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 the story...http://exoforce.lego.com/en-gb/Story/Default.aspx Just keep in mind when watching, that this video is distributed by the Human side as Propoganda. So take it with a grain of salt. ;-) Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I'll explain very fast... Read the comics. Oh, and if you are confused by it a bit, I am too. X-D -ZotS Quote
Vader Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Ahhh so thats the story, thanks for asking Cap as ive been wondering too. Quote
captaintau Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Thats cool. Thanks for responses. Money and space prevent me from looking into this theme any closer, but I like what I read and see. Quote
SuvieD Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Story? There is a story? I thought it was just an excuse to have anime people fight robots so LEGO could expand sales in countries like Japan and China. I like exo force for the parts way more than for the sets or story though. Those robots are so nice. Quote
Starwars4J Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Welcome to the Space and Mecha forum. :-P Sure, all the info you need should probably be here at wikipedia. Hm, doesn't say much about the story though :-/ Story? There is a story? I thought it was just an excuse to have anime people fight robots so LEGO could expand sales in countries like Japan and China.I like exo force for the parts way more than for the sets or story though. Those robots are so nice. Same here :-D I remember awhile ago during a 2 for 1 sale (or 3 for 2...) I ended up buying a bunch of the mechs for their parts. I don't have any exoforce sets in one piece, they're all spread out, among my various colored buckets, waiting for the time I can use them in Space MOCs :-P And I agree completely with xeno, the whole thing just tries too hard to make humans the "good" guys when clearly it was their abusive, lazy ways that led to this conflict in the first place! Now excuse me, I'm going to get in my car, which was assembled by robots, and drive to get more Lego ;-) Quote
