A few notes on how this works.

Everytime im finishing a set for the whole of the build i will post them up top.

A comic will also follow along, but im still not sure where to put them. Since the builds is the primary thing her and where my focus is at.

But i build better if i have already made up a universe for what im building.

Along the way i will post WIPs of the whole of the thing.

wip_codd%20%281%29.JPG

Hi stranger. My name is Imnofa Kertrue.

Living north of the Eastern Bridge we had little to do but tell stories and tales when bored.

I thought thats why i had these very real like dreams of dragons wizards and knights fighting each other when i slept.

Little did i know that they were all very real, and a quest beyond my imagination was lying ahead of me.

** To be continued. **

I keep this first post for finished sets. As i finish a build a story will come along with it.

This project is my biggest to date, and will be the first time i build castle.

Please give advices as that will help me with my building skills.

Thanks in advance :)

Added 18th of October 2013.

Second set done. The Abandoned Crypt.

coddac1.JPG

This has been such a fun set to make. I have rebuilded almost every area of this build several times i think.

Changing stuff all the time. Im very pleased with the result.

coddac2.JPG

Sideview. As always with my houses / buildings, offcourse they have interior.

And the crypt can be entered by stairs.

coddac3.JPG

I worked hard to make the backyard very detailed. And it was a must that you wouldnt be able to se the two graves / holes where the skeletons can lay in.

coddac4.JPG

The stairs leading into the crypt.

coddac5.JPG

The infestation coming out the wall.

coddac6.JPG

All the parts that make up the whole set.

They can offcourse, all be easily removed, put together again.

coddac7.JPG

And topview. This has probably been one of the most complicated builds ive ever made.

The reason i say probably, is because of the next picture.

This seems to be able to outdo the crypt.

Added 9th of October 2013.

Set 1 done. The Princess horse carriage

princess_carriage.jpg

1princesscarriagefinal.jpg

I rebuilded this carriage 4 times.

The doors can be opened.

2princesscarriagefinal.jpg

The princess can sit in there.

It should have lots of soldiers.

3princesscarriagefinal.JPG

And also have steering.

4princesscarriagefinal.JPG

Ofcourse it should be able to carry a chest.

5princesscarriagefinal.JPG

Overall it was very fun to make the Carriage as it really tested my skills.

But im very happy with the outcome.

Guess what is next on the set list ... ? .... :D

Welcome to my next project.

It begun with me wanting to make an up to date version of the classic yellow castle, but has evolved to become the biggest build i have ever done, with a universe of our own and a story to go along

with it.

wip_codd%202.JPG

The castle will be modular and and have lot of playability but with as many details as possible to the best of our building skills.

wip_codd%203.JPG

It startet with this, but this was meant to be a standalone version of the original yellow castle.

wip_codd%204.JPG

This is the design im going with, but its still possible that changes will take place.

I really want this to be our best build to date, so it doesnt matter how long it will take to build. All that matters is that it will be fun and look as great as i can make it. And that my story

goes along with the build as more chapters are added.

wip_codd%205.JPG

For now im working on some 12 baseplates 32x32 studs. But more are likely to be added.

Now a few pictures of the progress.

wip_codd%206.JPG

wip_codd%207.JPG

wip_codd%208.JPG

wip_codd%209.JPG

Why im posting a WIP is to get as much info as possible from you all.

Please let me know what is great and what is not. I have been staring at this for such a long time that i might not see what is straight up akward, and i really want this to be our best creation to

date.

More pictures in a few days since more progrees have been made but i havent had time to set it all up for decent pictures to be taken.

Thanks in advance :)

From what I have seen I think it is awesome! I like how you have put details in it. My only suggestion is for you to make a throne room or ballroom inside the castle. Anyways I think it looks fantastic so far. Keep up the good work! :-)

Thanks for the advice.

Its being tablescrapped these days. The castle will be at least two more baseplates. Including a throneroom and a "kings" garden, also a princess tower will follow along.

A third might be added, but for that i will need a lot of slopes that i dont have this moment.

But im pretty sure that this project will proceed for some 3-6 months, it could be added in the future if i get to buy the bricks from BL or if im lucky that they will show up in my local LEGO store on the PAB wall. :)

More Progress pictures:

Got the dimensions for the castles main building correct now, and have made the first two floors roughly.

wip_codd10.JPG

Two more baseplates added for the castle. As mentioned a third might be added lateron.

wip_codd11.JPG

Staircase and first floor added. These are just the rough bases for the floors. They are mudular and can be taken apart really easy.

Now ive come to the fun part of making interior and tiles to the diffrent floors.

wip_codd12.JPG

Second floor added.

wip_codd13.JPG

Another WIP.

The princess horse carriage. This is important for me to get done before the adventure for our hero can begin.

wip_codd14.JPG

Now its time for me to work on the outside of the kings hall and add the kings garden.

Do the interior and add textures to the diffrent floors and the castles yard.

If you like or dislike something about this build, please do comment to help me get better at building.

As mentioned earlier, its my first time building castle, so all comments will be helpfull.

Thanks in advance :)

Have gotten some done since last, but not to the extend where im really feeling that a part of the build is finished.

1_Main_wipLog2.JPG

1_wipLog2.JPG

This is where i left of from last log.

2_wipLog2.JPG

First the boring part. I will redo the whole of the balcony of the tower wall since if looks a mess, also i will redo most of the rockwork in front of the castle.

This will be done not because its bad, but because the diffrence in terrain doesnt add up the way i wanted it to, when the next couple of baseplates is added. More on that much later.

Some inventory has been added for the castles yard, and a stairway and the bases of the castles baseplate has been finished roughly.

Now for some of the fun stuff.

3_wipLog2.JPG

I left you with basically a construction of the castles outer walls and not much to look at last log.

Lets start with the cellar / armory.

4_wipLog2.JPG

Im pretty pleased with how this has turned out.

5_wipLog2.JPG

The textures on the floors will not be changed. but i might make a few changes to the walls themself, and offcourse i will add more inventory to the cellar.

6_wipLog2.JPG

Next up second floor. A lot still has to be done with this level.

7_wipLog2.JPG

I must have redone this some 4 times, never being pleased with the textures.

The library is pretty cool, but the door leading into the dinner room kings hall, will be changed, also the wall textures on the outside will be redone.

The floor textures im pretty pleased with for now, but lets se how it ends up looking.

The small room with the red / marine blue textures on the floor will end up being a kitchen im thinking.

Still a lot of work to be done with this floor as well. I need a big dining table, chairs and other inventory for this level as well.

8_wipLog2.JPG

Now one level up again.

Say hi to the King and princess.

9_wipLog2.JPG

The outlines of the walls have not been compleated due to the roof design im working with, it just wont add up yet. But it will at some point since im stubborn and want it done to the best of my skills and wont stop redesigning it till im pleased.

Textures of the kings hall im pleased with, and the balconys design, but i will change a few colours here and there on this level.

10_wipLog2.JPG

A front view.

The princess carriage leaving.

11_wipLog2.JPG

Have redone the design, and will do it once again, since i can make the length of it 1 stud shorter and add more steering to it.

When this is done the 1st chapter of the story itself will be released and the chronicle can begin.

Im in a hurry all over sudden. This will have to do it for now. Hope their aint to many spelling errors .

Please do tell what you like and dislike of the build.

Thanks in advance :)

As mentioned in top post. Every time i finish a set for this diorama, a short story will follow along.

I would have posted it together with the work in progress log, but im not sure if i will get it done tonight. A lot of work in there.

Anyways here it goes.

Feel free to comment both for good and bad as it will all help me improve my building skills.

And as mentioned, a WIP is on its way. Lots of stuff has been done.

Thanks in advance.

ebwiplog4_14.JPG

I can finally reveal my terrain plan.

More on that further down.

ebwiplog4_2.JPG

Last time i hadnt done the outside walls of the top level of the kings castle cause i didnt know how to fit the roof.

I got that in place now, but the roof design is still teasing me.

ebwiplog4_3.JPG

Some changes and some interior has also been done for the second level.

ebwiplog4_4.JPG

It can even be rotated to fit both ways, and you will still be able to move around the whole of the floor.

ebwiplog4_5.JPG

But its ment to sit this way. The library has been widthened.

Not much else has been done with the floors.

ebwiplog4_6.JPG

Ive begun work on the princess garden as well, and the castles yard.

ebwiplog4_7.JPG

Still a llot of details and stuff to be squeeked all around the castle.

Which is good. A lot more fun for me in the horizon.

ebwiplog4_8.JPG

Ive redesigned the corner towers for the castle as well, filling in the walls, but even though at first, i was very pleased with the design. Now to me it just looks out of place i will redesign them again.

I also rebuilded the castles gate.

ebwiplog4_9.JPG

Lets move on to another build im progressing on.

This will become an abandomed crypt. This was the "table scrap" of it. I will probably end up rebuilding this 4 times as i did with the Princess horse carriage9

ebwiplog4_10.JPG

without the roof.

ebwiplog4_11.JPG

All the parts.

ebwiplog4_12.JPG

Frontview of the crypt.

ebwiplog4_13.JPG

"backside" of the crypt.

ebwiplog4_14.JPG

Now lets expand the whole of the terrain.

ebwiplog4_15.JPG

This is merely test setup.

I havent been able to reveal any of the terrain design before now since, first of all, i didnt know how i would like it all to be placed.

Second it also had ot fit with the story that goes along and it shall offcouse end up looking awesome ( i hope).

Also, even though i have a lot of bricks, i know from previous experiences that you always ebd up not having what you need in the end.

So i didnt want to make it bigger than i had bricks for neither.

Therefore im building on some 3-4 baseplates at a time, so i know what i will need, and so i can shrink or widthen the whole setup in the end.

Lets look at what i have in mind.

First of all. Im still hiding a few baseplates for you since showing them now would lead you to know whats obvious, and would ruin some of my story for the build.

ebwiplog4_16.JPG

However i will let you in on all of this for now.

So the road leading from the castle has been expanded.

ebwiplog4_17.JPG

A shipwreck will be located here. This might be expanded since i havent startet on that build at all yet.

ebwiplog4_18.JPG

The abandoned crypt surrounded by a forest here.

ebwiplog4_19.JPG

an infested area will be placed here behind the crypt.

ebwiplog4_20.JPG

A waterfall and a mountain / hill will be located up here.

So all in all still a lot more work to be done all over.

Having finally been able to sketch out the terrain i can now get to the joy of maming all the diffrent plates fit together.

As always, please do comment and tell me what looks good and what is looking misplaced, bad as that will help me improve my building skills.

Thanks in advance and i hope you enjoyed.

I really like the story! When I first saw the princess in the soldier outfit, I burst out laughing! Keep up the good work! :-)

Thanks. I hope that the build and the story will follow along being awesome both of them :D

Fantastic story, it is really well done! I love the build as well, unique color schemes!

Thanks a lot. I hope it will continue to be great.

I love doing colors that is of from what most do. I just always look at these piles of bricks that i never really use for other things than strenghtning a build and wonder what can i use them for.

Great story, beautiful landscape and awesome interior!

Thanks. Im putting a lot of work into this.

I do need to improve my photoshop skills as im not happy eith many of the pictures for the second set. But im so glad you liked it.

mainwiplog29102013.JPG

1wiplog29102013.JPG

1 Ive been spending most of the time since last on plainig out the landscape so i could get to the edges and finally begin to add details.

I really wanted the whole of the landscape to not be flat on on too large areas at a time. Since i havent been doing landscapes this scale before beside Classic Space which i had a totally diffrent approach too, this has been an enormous challenge.

To me it felt like i had to learn a totally new building technique, but im beginnig to feel that all the work has payed off.

2wiplog29102013.JPG

Ive been speculating a lot during this process of how you all work with terrain like this.

Thing is i often find myself building from top to buttom.

Starting with a baseplate then laying bricks on top looking dowm on it till i find the pattern or form that i want what im building to have.

3wiplog29102013.JPG

I think this shows very well what i mean. This is the infested rocks.

Having the layout done, im setting up a rough skeleton to get an idea of how i want the rockwork to turn out in its horizontal shape.

Its really always turning out fragile in this state.

4wiplog29102013.JPG

When im satisfied, im beginning to make it more dense till im overall happy. Usually on side at a time.

Its not until this state that i strenghten it with scaffolds building up underneath the terrain.

5wiplog29102013.JPG

This means that the whole thing might come crashing down on one during the process. I was lucky with this baseplate as i didnt have any major collapses.

Are you doing it the same way or what ? ... Im being really curious about it.

6wiplog29102013.JPG

Its almost the same i did with the abandoned crypt.

Last log ended with me wanting to tare it apart to rebuild it. And thats what i did.

Building the final floor with the hole to get access to below which would become to hold a crypt.

7wiplog29102013.JPG

Then rebuilding side by side of the top level changing the diffrent bricks i wasnt happy with at first.

8wiplog29102013.JPG

When i build an "idea" the first time i almost always add all ideas and details that come to mind, then afterwards in the second or third build removing what doesnt seem right.

Usually ending up with a very clean build and not that many overwhelming details.

9wiplog29102013.JPG

However i did end up adjusting the existing backyard here since i felt the terrain was right for the crypt.

Its not very often im that lucky being satisfied at the first tablescrap.

10wiplog29102013.JPG

And the final result of the crypt. More pictures of the final build can be found in top post Chapter 2 of Chronicle of Dragon Dent.

11wiplog29102013.JPG

Lets continue with the terrain. Now knowing how much space the crypt and the infested area would use i could continue with the road leading from the castle.

12wiplog29102013.JPG

I would need space for a forest in front of the crypt and the infested area, hiding it from its surroundings. So i could not begin this part till now.

13wiplog29102013.JPG

Also finally getting to know the hight of these baseplates at the edges i could begin on the terrain on the "front" side of the diorama and also finally get an idea of where the sea should be located.

That was equally as important for me to find this position.

I want the edges at the front to level out in 1 plate hight, and im free to end in whatever hight nessecary at the back of the diorama, making it look smooth. If it can be explained like that.

14wiplog29102013.JPG

Doing rockwork at the edge of the castle. This corner is totally plained out. I want a marketplace or carnival to go on here when finished.

15wiplog29102013.JPG

A road leading down to this area offcourse. This was a serious pita to build.

16wiplog29102013.JPG

Im pretty pleased with how it is looking so far. I feel the diffrence in level is quite satisfying and when i get to the final touches its gonna look awesome.

17wiplog29102013.JPG

And a bridge from the road going across the water. Im not really sure with this design.

As much as i like it looking old still robust, something is not feeling right about it.

18wiplog29102013.JPG

But for now its gonna look as is.

This area is where the marketplace will be at. Im not sure im gonna use the baseplate or if im gonna build terrain here also. Im in between loving it and not.

19wiplog29102013.JPG

Im working on so many things for the whole of the diorama.

The marketplace, a witch or a wizards hut. A monster that is still not named. A shipwreck.

All of this could be a log for itself and probably will become as i get further ahead with all these things.

20wiplog29102013.JPG

So to end this log of, i couldnt resist putting the ent from the tower of Orthac onto my infested area. Did someone fart ? :D

As always please comment for good or bad.

Thanks in advance. :)

some really goog stuff in this, although I'm not really sold on the yellow castle. But anyways, keep up the effort, every brick you place improves your building skills (joing goh does that too though  )
