Brickmasta Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Hi dear fellow Brickheads I hope this is the fitting forum for this topic... I rediscovered my passion for Lego now that I turned 30 and collected all my old Lego stuff from the 90s I got as a child, and looking forward to expand the range of bricks now. I would love to get into building and designing sci-fi stuff, especially MECHs but I am now completely overwhelmed by all the parts and possibilities. I looked at some pictures on Flickr of good builders and don't even recognize most of the parts or how they all possibly fit the bricks together to hold up like they do... amazing! I would humbly ask for a little help and advice in regards of parts, especially how to do good and stable joints for legs and arms to get them moving properly. I would like to try out different forms, humanoid mechs, tall and slim like GUNDAM or EVA, but also something more unusual like from MECHWARRIOR or something of my own design... but I just lack the proper inspiration to get it going. I think I am just overwhelmed by the amount of bricks and possibilities I have. Is there maybe any source for learning how to build joints and posable / movable parts like legs and arms... ? Or bigger pictures with close ups of something like the cool mecha like this: The guy is a huge inspirational source but unfortunately only provides small pictures I would really appreciate any feedback, hint, tip etc... you can give me and look forward to my first MOC to provide you with hopefully cool and inspiring pictures Quote
genecyst Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 what i suggest you to do is to download all the building instructions of official lego mechs you can find on brickset.com. Exo force is all based on mechs, but the best are on ninjago theme. learn how they work and use them as a base to build something on your own. some people like boyzwiththemosttoyz, who's specialized mostly on transformers stuff, sometimes publish an "howto" video on thier youtube channel: If i don't remember badly he has something like a skeleton for the mechs he build around there.
