These railmotors were used by the Victorian Railways (in Australia) from 1922 into the 1950's, and were pretty successful. They provided passenger services on lines where passenger traffic didn't warrant a full train. On busier routes and at busier times they could be seen pulling one or two passenger trailers.

This is my entry in the Rail Buses Mini-challenge on Flickr. The challenge is open until the end of October, so there is still time to have a go at building a rail bus.

I have never seen one of these in real life, but I can imagine it is just the sort of thing that would be useful for running on a small branch line between villages. You could almost see them running a kind of railway taxi service with something like this in rural areas. We should get them brought back, they could have saved a few rural branch lines that got ripped up in the 60' & 70's UK like the one that ran behind my parent's house. I can just about recall the rails still being there but not the trains. Nice model of it as well!

It's really a nice and interesting rail-bus, you have built there, scruffulous. I like the choice of colour, it really resembles what was used back then.

Which element did you use for the windshield - including the side/corner?

I wonder, if it would be possible to use small units like that on tracks nowadays.

Front windows are two dark red plane windows sandwiching a transparent brick (with plates on top to bring it to height). Front doors are stickered panels.
