JM1971 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 Widened the bodywork so it can attach to the chassis, even looks like a buggy now :) Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Starting to look better and better :) How does it perform? Quote
JM1971 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 (edited) Only built the front suspension and steering so far then attached a motor to test, goes about twice as fast as the rock crawler, waiting on parts now. My first attempt to widen the body it looked like a killer whale lol. Edited October 5, 2013 by JM1971 Quote
JM1971 Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 Stainless steel lego, maybe when 3d printers can make metal? Quote
clarkdef Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Very nice I like that the IR looks like a seat! What stiffness springs will you use? I think the yellow ones are far too hard for something this light. Quote
JM1971 Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 Its hard to say until its all together, the light springs might bottom out because they are probably weaker at 45 degrees, the suspension only travels +-10 degrees which is good for the CV joints. Payday tomorrow, so I will be able to order all the 269 parts needed or at least enough to build the chassis, the other 375 parts are in sets 9398 and 8081, which I have. I'm also trying to get pov ray to render the model slightly transparent for quick and easy instructions, very difficult so I emailed the maker of ldd2povray. Quote
JM1971 Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 X-Ray render, with help from the ldd2povray author. Quote
JM1971 Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) Instructions and LDD file ... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=535062 Edited October 12, 2013 by JM1971 Quote
JM1971 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Passed the Jake test, no pieces came off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra05EoYNUbI Quote
clarkdef Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Yeah that suspension is too stiff at that speed, even if it were twice the speed it would be too stiff. Quote
JM1971 Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 True, I tried weaker suspension on the front and its a lot better but I only have 3 of those shocks, a couple of more parts to get before its complete. Quote
clarkdef Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 You have two xls in this? Gear it up i say! Quote
JM1971 Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Now it close to the limit of how fast it can go, putting on bigger wheels gets a overload. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg09Qhg8aN0 Quote
skriblez Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I want to build that! Looks like great fun Quote
JM1971 Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Up to date LDD file on first post, also here ... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/JM1971/LDD/rage-buggy.lxf Still needs some work on steering, gearboxes, receiver placement and rear suspension :) Quote
Rishab N Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Looks fast! I would love to build it too Quote
