DrJB Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Per the 'intense' bidding often seen on eBay, the old 9V electric Motors are still in high demand. Used, they often sell for over $20.00 a piece. This is higher than what TLG charges for both the Medium PF ($7.90) and XL PF ($15.00). Furthermore, with a conversion cable ($2.99), one can use all the old 9V power supplies. I bet the reason such motors are in high demand got nothing to do with their performance (e.g. Philo's study). The question I have is: How do you explain such demand for an outdated/used and more expensive motor? ... Is this pure sellers/buyers 'ignorance' of the new motors, or something else? Quote
piterx Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 i don't know really...the only application i found for my old 9v motor is to make a fan...lol Quote
paul_delahaye Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I don't know either, but I need to buy an old 9v motor to replace the jammed one on my barcode truck which I bought the other year. Quote
Junpei Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 piterx are you talking about the 2838 motor? Its 2000+ RPM speed makes it really fun to screw around with, and you can get them for $3 apiece. I think the square 9v motors actually have pretty good performance, though. Quote
piterx Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 yeah i know it has lot of rpm....i've tried to use it to make a vehicle powered by a propeller but it couldn't move :( the propeller i have makes only a lot of wind XD i should get the parts zbjl was using for his deltawing test one day... allanp Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 The 2838 motor has more power than the barcode truck motor and almost as much as the pf-M motor when geared down right. That and the buggy motor are my favorite motors. Quote
Bricktrain Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I would say it is more likely for those with mindstorms RCX sets and other older sets to keep them working. Quote
