Early in their journey, Frodo and Sam crossed various brooks and streams in the Shire. This is one of them.

From another angle, we can see a friendly Shire-Frog watching them pass. (He's waiting to jump on the stepping stone Frodo is currently occupying.)

A bird flying West saw the scene from this perspective:

So, this is my first MOC since I came out of my two-decade-long Dark Ages in May. I chose something small and simple to get started. (I was pleased to discover the "vignette" was an accepted form, since I really don't have many bricks in modern [non-rainbow] colors.) I really did this as an exercise in making an embankment: trying to show a slope with various layers of dirt (and grass, of course, on the top). I quickly realized the slope would have to go sideways if I wanted to keep it in the 8x8 vignette space and still show the creek.

The photography aspect was harder than I thought: my point-and-shoot camera doesn't have shutter speed or aperture control, so I had to wing it. Originally, I took the photos inside, but they came out yellow-tinted (incandescent light) and even more grainy than these. I took these outside, near sunset, with a sheet of blank white paper as the background. I'm at a loss to explain the blue tint.

I appreciate any feedback you could give me. Thanks!

Given the limitations of your bricks, I think this is a good way to come out of your dark ages. It's simple and contains a good amount of detail for an 8x8. Its a good start!

Keep up the good work :classic:

This is a fantastic little scene - well done :-) My only suggestion would be to swap out Sam's staff for a brown wand (harry potter) or something similar that is more hobbit sized. But I especially love the little inclusion of the frog!
