stu808 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Hiya all, I've been naughty and made some spur of the moment purchases, the local online auction site had 2nd Edition Hogwarts Express (4758) at a good price and while checking Bricklink to see if the price was ok; I found a seller with two matching coaches for sale at what I thought was good price too, until shipping kicked in. Poor credit card. I've now paid for both the train AND two extra coaches. And yes this isn't going to fit with DB/German theme I was attempting... this might tempt me into MOCing that GWR 0-6-0... sorry I digress. My questions are- On the coaches there are yellow numbered tiles (3070 bp01/bp02) with the numbers 1 and 2. I'm guessing that now I have two extra coaches I'll need numbers 3,4,5 and 6 right? So...does anybody out there know what font the lettering is in? It looks like Helvetica to me. Now I'm planning to run this train on a PF motor, so I made up a copy of the 3rd Edition Hogwarts Express (4841) tender in LDD and worked/MOC'd out how to make PF RX/Battery fit in the tender. But the Lego version of the train is a 4-4-0 with wheels of all the same sizes, where as the train they did use in the movies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_4900_Class_5972_Olton_Hall) was a 4-6-0 with driving wheels and leading wheels different sizes. I'm going to keep the wheels that come with the set as the leading wheels, but I'll use something else for drivers. Any suggestions? Many thanks, Stu :) Quote
Duq Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Lego produce larger steam drivers. They've been used in the Emerald Night and Toy Story train and are currently in the Lone Ranger train. Quote

I think these are for the class first and second class (perhaps even a third) but not for the coaches. Quote

zephyr1934 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 You might consider the red drivers that came with the toy story train. Quote
Rumpelmuck Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Did you try Ben's wheels? http://bigbenbricks.com/ Quote
JopieK Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 About the numbers: LEGO does indeed use Helvetica (I think Helvetica Neue if I remember correctly) quite often. Quote
stu808 Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 (edited) Hey all, Thanks for all the replies, sorry mine took a while to get back... my Dad lost the battle with cancer a few days after my initial post :( Lego produce larger steam drivers. They've been used in the Emerald Night and Toy Story train and are currently in the Lone Ranger train. Thanks for links to the part codes... part numbers now locked into Bricklink as I scour the Earth for most unique parts seller with best price and ok shipping fees. I think these are for the class first and second class (perhaps even a third) but not for the coaches. 'Doah!' Why didn't I think of that; then again I'm better with freight trains then the passenger variety. Three carriages so three classes ;) And there is an official number '3' tile too. I wouldn't use the wheels that came with it as you can't go over switches with this wheels. Oh, BIG Thanks for that one... wouldn't have known that until the massive derailment. You might consider the red drivers that came with the toy story train. Did you try Ben's wheels? http://bigbenbricks.com/ I'm saving those options for future MOCs, if that makes sense? Plans vaguely include a BR and 0-6-0 of some sort, if I can't find a suitable German 0-6-0 then I'll do rebuild of Lima OO GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tank; my first ever model/toy train. About the numbers: LEGO does indeed use Helvetica (I think Helvetica Neue if I remember correctly) quite often. Cheers, I had a friend from art college days who is a font wizard have a look too. She said it was Helvetica Neue Bold, so two thumbs up is good enough for me. Stu :) Edited October 13, 2013 by stu808 Quote
JopieK Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Sorry to hear that stu808!!! Hope your LEGO hobby will also help in your grieving. The BBB wheels are a good option indeed, I also used them for a recent shunter MOC. Advantage of the original LEGO version is that they have a rubber ring so they provide better traction (but there is a nice tutorial on how to fix this for BBB wheels as well, only thing is that it is now and then hard to get the rubber rings).
