Maxim I Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I was noobing around (as in lurking around without having a challenge so I never build something) at the Pirate forum. As a lot of the pirates where advertising Avalonia in their banners, I followed them. With my mostly western fitting collection I tried to join Avalonia with my bunch of 30 knights I had. After they told me Avalonia was full I offered my loyalty to the first one who recruited me. Thanks to NiceMarmot I landed in Kaliphlin. I had absolutely no bricks fitting the Guild so I started from the bottom and now I am here :D Honestly, I am really happy I am in Kaliphlin as there are way more opportunities to build something really unique here than in Avalonia :) Quote

Ha, I too was going to join Avalonia, but then I read that they weren't accepting any new members so to the south I went. I think I found out about GoH from a Brother's Brick blog post. Quote
SarahJoy Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) Ignorance time! What are the phases I'm seeing here? At first I thought they are the tasks but I see they are something different. The phases are part of Age of Mitgardia. I found GoH pretty randomly. I was using the google machine to find architecture set reviews, and ended up at EB. Started lurking in the city section, as I wanted to learn to build modular-type buildings. Then, I ended up visiting other parts of EB, checking out any section that seemed to be interested in building buildings. The community and the gorgeous builds of GoH, as well as specific programs designed to improve building skills like AoM and UoP, are what really attracted me. I spent a few weeks reading through the discussion pages and letting a storyline develop in my head before I finally got a sigfig put together and posted. Edited August 22, 2014 by SarahJoy Quote
Hammerhand Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I joined after spending some time in the historic forum, and then finding GoH. I was pretty inspired by all the builds I was seeing (it was in the middle of the Nocturnus civil war I think), and how much fun y'all were having over here, so I signed up for Avalonia. I too was having trouble deciding between Avalonia and Kaliphlin, but in the end Avalonia won out because that's more my niche of building. Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Not to derail the topic, but could you guys give me some feedback on the interior of the chapel in my castle? I can't decide if it's too cramped. Quote
Mike S Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Not to derail the topic, but could you guys give me some feedback on the interior of the chapel in my castle? I can't decide if it's too cramped. It is actually one stud wider than the Aslanic temple I'm building in Trifork. Quote
de Gothia Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 You don´t derail the topic! We are here for you fellow guildsmate! =) I like the chapel and the fact that it´s cramped. Wow, so many channels to make your way to GoH! Hard to make one good advertisment thing then! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I like cramped stuff! Then you'll love this castle! It is actually one stud wider than the Aslanic temple I'm building in Trifork. Well it's not the size, it's how you use it that matters. You don´t derail the topic! We are here for you fellow guildsmate! =) I like the chapel and the fact that it´s cramped. TheUtilityBelt Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I dont think it's very cramped. Though you may want a small raised platform for the preacher. Quote
Gideon Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I dont think it's very cramped. Though you may want a small raised platform for the preacher. Not sure if that is needed, this looks more like a small castle chapel where only a few people (maybe the lord/castellan and the closest family) would celebrate the mass (or whatever ceremony they do in Avalonia ). Yeah. They probably worship some flower god or something. :D Quote

I dunno, I like the idea of a raised platform (one plate higher) just to help to define the overall space. Traditionally, the priest's area would be higher, to increase his visibility for the congregation. That idea would still hold true, even in a cozy family chapel. EIther way, it's a lovely build! Quote

Sorry, I thought of a pulpit for the preacher which felt a bit unnecessary in such a small space. That the floor at the front could be one or a couple plates higher makes sense. Quote

Yeah that's the idea! I may end up raising the the floor a couple plates up there, I'll have to try some things out when I get home. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Does Avalonia have anything more northern, not quite Mitgardian, but snow cover? I have had zero time for GoH since I first joined (I think on day 2 of the announcement!) but I have been interested in building as of late (the rare moments I find to build). But I've been watching Game of Thrones too, and I really got interested in Winterfell and a more snow covered area, without it actually being in Mitgardia since I joined Avalonia originally. Just thought I would ask. I know I'm so far behind in the actual storyline and don't know what is going on currently. But I like the community that was created with this and I wish I would have had more time from the start. Quote
Rolli Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Does Avalonia have anything more northern, not quite Mitgardian, but snow cover? Nothing specific I think. But the thing is: Avalonia - and GoH for that matter - is what you make of it. We have a border to Mitgardia, I don't see why there shouldn't be snow. Or you just send some of your troops into Mitgardia, visiting someone or doing whatever, creating a storyline of your own or collaborating with some of the Mitgardian guys. Also the next challenge is going to be set in Mitgardia so you'll have snow and more there. Feel free to explore, to create, to join and be part of this community now that you have time for it Quote
Maxim I Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 You can always convert one of the northern mystic isles to a snowy isle :) Quote
Gideon Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Does Avalonia have anything more northern, not quite Mitgardian, but snow cover? I would assume that Avalonia has quite distinct seasons, especially close to Mitgardia, so that a few months of snow in the north is quite plausible? Snowfall down by the Kaliphlin border would probably however have some people gather with their torches and pitchforks and go after the supposed elemental mage causing it? Quote
gedren_y Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I heard they get snow sometimes near Qarkyr, In the Challenge III Prologue, there was some snowfall on the MItgardian side of the borderlands. Quote
Gideon Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I heard they get snow sometimes near Qarkyr, Definitely! But that's up in the mountains, I was referring to the subtropical borderlands between Avalonia and Kaliphlin. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Thanks for the input. I assumed as such, but I didn't know what the specifics were that people had set up. I do enjoy reading the stories and looking at the builds people create. Quote
Wedge09 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 How religion in Avalonia works? Like Christianity or have a pantheon of few different divinity? I asks because I'm preparing some photos from place of worship to post as freebuild! Quote

I asks because I'm preparing some photos from place of worship to post as freebuild! Well, right now there's not one established religion, or even a predominant one from what I've seen. However, the Faith, the religion of Burnby, worships one god that has five aspects. Quote
