-Carson Haupt- Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 So I've been reading the replies about the Guils of the Brick Seas over on the pirates forum, and honestly, I'm not sure why they think GoH is so confusing! Several people over there said that was what turned them away from it. I never thought it was too complex for rookies, and is joined at the end of Book I. Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Ok now I'm really scared about GoH closing down/challenges stopping/etc. I'm also worried about the creation of a so called "Ultimate Game" that some members are lobbying that combines the pirates and castle. I feel like that would kill the world we've all worked so hard to create. Quote
SkaForHire Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I don't think the supergame idea would ever work. We have too much history to shut down, and then start up another GoH... The only way the pirates thing works is if it is new and different from GoH. I think we would lose some people though, which I am a bit hesitant about. Although I would love to play both. I think my wallet would hate it though. Quote

I'm not really interested in the pirate era, but I can definitely see how it could work if the two universes were sufficiently different. Quote
SkaForHire Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Not to hijack the Avalonia thread, but yes, that is why I threw in the free agent idea and the more dynamic gold idea. Those are some things that would make their setting a bit different from ours. Although, So far it is the same 8 or so people posting, I wonder if there is even enough people interested over there. Remember this is at least the third, if not forth time this has been brought up. Quote

HammerBro Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Hmm, I think pirates and castle are closely related for adventure themes, but they shouldn't coincide. We could lose some people, but I think there's a enough people already active in GoH to keep it alive some some time. Quote
Gideon Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I think that we should not consider the amount of participants as a static amount to be shared between GoH, LCC and other "massive multi-builder online roleplaying games". Instead I think that the more this scene grows, the more builders will give it a try and as many have already done here in GoH develop their skills in building and "playing" in this way. Of course some core people might be "lost" to the other worlds but new people who are coming in might very well step up to be vital parts of the core GoH membership for years to come. The idea of a joint GoH-pirate world is not very appealing if you ask me, as GoH would be forced way out of the medieval/high fantasy setting that has been so successful so far and has an almost infinite amount of untapped potential still. So my opinion is that there's definitely room for a pirate world alongside GoH, and I don't see a problem with coordinating in the way that the major challenges don't finish at the same time (maybe also coordinate with SoNE?). There's usually a few months of lower activity in GoH after a big challenge anyway, and if there should be a pirate challenge run then I don't see that it would be that bad if some of the top contributors to GoH were to switch over there for a couple of months before the next challenge. We who only build in GoH can keep busy free-building or with mini-challenges in the meantime (or be encouraged to try new building styles ). There really should be a word for what we are doing btw, "brick semi-freeform RPG" is the closest description I can come up with. There must be a better term? Quote
Rolli Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 (I don't want to kill the discussion, I just have a short announcement to make - reposting this from the Albion thread) Fellow Avalonians and citizens of Albion! I decided that we should have a more advanced and fancier map of our beloved capital. So I sat down and created one: Green is already built, white / light gray are reserved spots and gold is yet to be claimed. What do you think? Regards! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I have a question. What are those little gold circles? Quote
de Gothia Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Great idea Rolli! CH: That could be anything, a tree, a statue, a fountain etc... I made "my" circle a well.. Quote
narbilu Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Great city plan Rolli, but I already posted my builde of plot 65,66 and 67... Quote
Rolli Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Great city plan Rolli, but I already posted my builde of plot 65,66 and 67... Sorry for that, I updated the map already! Apparently the list in the first post isn't up-to-date anymore. For any occurring issues, please send me a PM so we can solve them! Lets hope for some new buildings in our capital! Quote
mpoh98 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Yay! More people building Albion! :D I am so confused, what is going on with GoH, and this Pirate thing? Quote
HammerBro Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Just letting you guys know, I currently have two projects underway--one ship of the isles for an elven city by the name of Gondolin (Backstory to come with post) and the other, a 64x96 stud base Ag scene for HSS. I need to get some parts from brickwarriors and bricklink before the ship can be finished, but I just need time for the Ag build. I've also made some more figs with backstories that I might be able to post sometime this coming weekend. I don't know if I'll being building for Albion anytime soon, I've got a busy month ahead. Gilbert Despathens Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Hmm, I think pirates and castle are closely related for adventure themes, but they shouldn't coincide. We could lose some people, but I think there's a enough people already active in GoH to keep it alive some some time. Pirates and castle go together in the fantasy role-playing game on MOCpages... but it's not quite as advanced a world as the GoH, so that might come into play. It could still be done if enough people were really interested, though. Please pardon me while I change the subject yet again. I would like to join Avalonia (if you'll have me), and this is the character I intend to use: I don't have a name for him yet, and that horse is not likely to show up very often, but I have some builds underway and I'm ready to jump in. Hammerhand Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Sure we'll have you! Congratulation on joining the best guild there is. Quote
PenPlays Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Welcome, Sir, to Avalonia! The best of the Guilds!. Quote
SkaForHire Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Sorry, Gilbert, Penkid and Hammerhead misspoke, they meant to say the second best guild. But, really, great to have you in GoH! Welcome aboard! Quote
HammerBro Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Welcome! And don't pay any attention to Ska. Anyways, choosing a land is the next item of business after naming your sigfig. We have recently updated the Avalonian map so you see what lands are open. It's great to have another new member! Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Sure we'll have you! Congratulation on joining the best guild there is. Sure, let's go with that. And welcome to you Gilbert! Quote

We have recently updated the Avalonian map so you see what lands are open. It's great to have another new member! Choosing land... How about a small territory on the eastern border of Ferinwald? I saw a mountain range along the border with Mitgardia in another map, and that's what I'm interested in. One more question - since Challenge II is still in its prologue stage, does that mean that freebuilds are the only option? Thanks for the warm welcome - I'm sorry that we're soon going to be at war with each other. Quote
narbilu Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) First of all, welcome to Avalonia, currently, invested by the dark shadow called drow. Free builds are always a nice way to start, but there are several nice tasks in the Avalonian forum... you can find them in the first post. Next to the tasks, you can also claim a building (or 2) in Albion, our great pride, our capitol. And if I'm not wrong, Rogueang told us that chapter II will start very soon. Somewhere in the next couple of days. Godspeed and again welcome. Edited April 1, 2014 by narbilu Quote
Simon_S Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Gilbert, you just joined the right time! The Avalonian Challenge should come very soon. I look forward to your GoH MOCs ;-). Quote
