Chorduroy Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Here is a MOC I made for a recent show. It's based on the courthouse located in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. DSCN9217 by Chorduroy, on Flickr DSCN9220 by Chorduroy, on Flickr Quote
eurotrash Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Awesome job - it looks just like the original https://maps.google.com/maps?q=loc:50.3937,-105.5371&hl=en&ll=50.393746,-105.537372&spn=0.020957,0.052314&t=m&z=15&layer=c&cbll=50.393456,-105.536857&panoid=rNh-f4IacN4Tk0Y0dUi9nw&cbp=12,332.24,,0,-14.9 Is there an interior? Kristel Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 This looks fantastic and very true to the real one. Love it! Quote
Captain Settle Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Wow, I love the pillars and the huge windows! Quote
King Aragorn Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Lovely huge MOC! Beautiful architecture! Quote
Redhead1982 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Great work! There are some nice elements included in the MOC, such as the arched brick built windows, and flower beds near the entrance. I can easily imagine the building surrounded by some greenery on a prominent position in any town. Quote
timmyc1983 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Great MOC, it's a fantastic resemblance to the real thing! I love the windows with the arches over the top, it makes it look very grand! Great work and happy building Quote
Chorduroy Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 Thanks all!! Sadly, there is no interior. I was under a major time crunch to get this done for our show and wanted to make sure the exterior was the priority. With the trans-black windows, you can't really see in, so missing the interior wasn't a glaring omission. And after it completely fell apart the first time around, I had to use the interior to provide cross-bracing and support on the second build! Two compromises I had to make were to not represent the semi-circle window segments at the top of the arches and the pillars aren't tapered. Other than that, I am happy with it. I really like how the size of the 1 x 2 trans-black bricks seems to match perfectly to the scale of the window panes of the real building. Another funny thing is that the windows on the east side of the real building don't actually match the ones on the west. But I just looked at the real building from the west and assumed it was the same on the other side ... haha! Quote

It is challenging to consider keeping in certain details if possible or leaving them out. I know what you mean about the other side being different. There are only so many angles with photos on the internet. But a useful trick I found was to use google street maps to look at the building from that perspective. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Very nice work Chorduroy! Excellent work modular-izing this. Too bad you couldn't get to the interior, but if you couldn't really see it anyway, then no biggie Quote
