hewkii9 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Well, I am endeavoring on a great endeavor. Build lots and lots of Lord of the Rings stuff. My first goal is to build the characters-without modification, editing, or any such manner of miscreancy. So here's my first purist batch- THE SECOND AGE From left to right- 2nd age Gondorians, Isildur, Elendil, Sauron. Second Age Gondorians I tried to stick to a black and light grey scheme for these infantry, and gave them flared helmets. [Note-Gondor will be the only flared faction.] Elendil with Narsil Elendil was quite easy. I gave the royal house of the Second Age dark blue, and grille helmets to differ them further from the infantry. Since I lack chrome broadswords, I made Narsil from a supersword and two grey minifig hands to make the pommel resemble the blade of the long spears. Isildur I simply created a younger Elendil without Narsil or the cape. Sauron with One Ring- first image Sauron-second image Sauron was really fun to build. I took a plain black minifig, added armor [and a shade helmet *wub* ]. My real challenge was making a minifig scale mace that resembled the actual one, but could be held on one hand and looked more powerful overall. I used a yellow stud for the Ring [should replace with a gold one], and used black teeth for height. MISCELLANEOUS THIRD AGE -part 1- From left to right- Mouth of Sauron, Dunlendings, Eomer the Mouth of Sauron I must admit, I deviated from Tolkien's vision of the Dark Lord's herald. I gave him a halberd. Dunlendings You can see, I make two figs whenever I'm doing a faction. For Dunlendings, I made them look wild-and angry, ready to charge on Helm's Deep along with Uruks. I won't be using Viking helms much either [unless I also make Valar]. Eomer I don't have any comments on this guy, except I like how I built him. What you see is what you get. The Men of Umbar Red is a nice color for them, don't you think? To be continued... Quote
Capn Kirk 911 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I recommened you building some easterlings, but so far they all look good, but for Eomer you may want to spary paint his chest gold and than put a decal sticker of a horse on it, along with the helmet it would look more like the real thing. OH, and you can buy stuff for elfs like helm's, spears, bows, and shields on brickforge, heres the site = http://brickforge.com/ Quote
El Bucanero Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Not so bad, but I must say, some look a bit too much like normal minifigs... And I reccomend you to change the head of the mouth of Sauron. The Darth Vader or the ghost in the first Harry Potter castle head would look better I think. Mr Tiber Quote
oo7 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Not so bad, but I must say, some look a bit too much like normal minifigs... Yes, that's what I was thinking to, almost all look basically exactly like the 2006 KK. Besides that the designs are good, but you emphised the green on Eomer way too heavily. Idealy, there should be mostly dark red and brown, with some dark gray and black etc. Keep up the good work. *y* The new 2007 Castle will definately help your Gondorians. If you want an insiration I will provide you with my best link, but I warn you that it will most likley become harder to think of your own ideas and easier to plagerise other's once you veiw thier work. So here. The only thing I dislike there ^^ is Gimili above the torso, Aragorn's head, Legolas's white knives, and the hobbit hair pieces could be better. I've made some good LOTR figs myself..........haven't gotten to doing anything with them.......... Quote
Mike F Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I agree with oo7, the 2007 line will help a lot. Quote

If I can get Bricklink by then/buy off friends- Hobbits, Gollum, maybe Nazgul and Arwen. I did Eomer the way I did because I wanted each faction to have a general color[in this case green]. Theoden, as I'm hoping to build him, will be more like that. Mr Tiber, I was actually planning on using the Darth Vader head to make Gollum. And Capn Kirk, I'm doing this to see how well they look using only Lego parts as well as cause I'm a LOTR nerd. Quote
