Alasdair Ryan Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Right. But for correcting the parts positions, it goes rather quick. Next week I can send you the CAD file. The stepping work I'll start at the beginning of September, same for the build process. So first I've to check up the inventory and buy the necessary parts. Greetings Alex If you are reordering it then I will wait for your file as not to get in your way. Quote
afol1969 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 If you are reordering it then I will wait for your file as not to get in your way. That's ok. If all positions are correct, it will give a better visibility to the part placements, and it will be easier if something to change. But some parts have rather weird angle positions, that I must take care how to correct them. What do you plan on working for the instructions? Stepping? Creating sub-models? Please let me know on what you'll work on, so we can coordinate the tasks. Another note: I still have an unknown part while opening the file; it's the new 3L axle pin 11214.dat. It seems still not be available in the parts folder, even I made a parts scan to update the list. Greetings Alex Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 If you can reorder the files using a minimum number of parts (2-4) in each step, then I will add better placed steps and sub models. I can also do the cabling if Blakbird or yourself does not want to do it. Quote
Blakbird Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Here is what it looks like extended. Pretty awesome! My only complaint is that the actuators should be longer for scale and the boom should go closer to vertical (82 degrees). I wonder how it would look with a Firgelli? Quote
corellian_egr Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I am so ready to build this beautiful, exquisite model. When, oh when, oh WHEN can we have the instructions?! Quote
Blakbird Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I am so ready to build this beautiful, exquisite model. When, oh when, oh WHEN can we have the instructions?! As soon as you finish them. Quote
afol1969 Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) I am so ready to build this beautiful, exquisite model. When, oh when, oh WHEN can we have the instructions?! Good instructions will take their time . I'm still reviewing the parts position order, and on the way I've noticed that there are still some minor errors in the CAD file, like for ex. pins which are displaced of a half bush length, some weird part angles...and I'd to correct the shock absorber position, same for the pin connector toggle joints mounted on wrong side. But all errors only can be eliminated if the file is stepped and at least build the model. I've already on purchasing the necessary parts, and I think I have get all within next month. It will be fine if within next two month someone else can take the task for the Step/LPUB work - and the LSynth drawing (not necessary if clear notes where electric connections do belong) In September I can build up the model and make the final instructions finish, and maybe I find some suggestions/modifications to do. And if I see the fully extended boom, I indeed think about a further turntable counterweight resp. what to modify if the boom bends too much.... Greetings Alex Edited June 24, 2014 by afol1969 Quote
afol1969 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 That's done, the CAD file is ready for working on it! It was more work than I thought, because of correcting lots of angles that all parts fits correctly together, especially on the cabin. After opening and reviewing the file with Notepad, I think I don't forgotten any parts. If parts are missing or displaced, this may be appear in the original LFX file. I found some, but there can be more. At least it will be visible by doing the stepping. You can can download the file here: http://www.bricksafe.com/files/afol1969/Grove%20GMK6400.mpd Greetings Alex Quote
Blakbird Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 That's done, the CAD file is ready for working on it. Thanks for doing this. As you know LDD to LDraw conversion has a lot of problems. The first problem is that only parts which are included in the LDraw.xml file are converted, and many Technic parts are not in this file so just don't show up at all. I have extensively developed my own file to import a lot of these parts. The other problem is that the programs use different coordinate systems and scaling factors, so everything has to be transformed. In most cases, the transformation matrices are not precisely accurate so the position of the parts in LDraw are all a bit off and don't line up. Fixing these all manually, like you have done, is a tremendous amount of work. Thanks! I've looked through your file and it is a vast improvement. There were two singular matrix errors in which a part was "flat" because the matrix was not complete, so I've fixed those and replaced my master file with your updated file. Any further work should use this as a starting point. By the way, I've also made a render of the extended version: Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I have started reordering axle one which I am 50% through, after that I will then add the fancy stuff to it to improve quality. Quote
twwd Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Hi, I am a new member of this blog! I have just purchased and received the 42009 Mobile Crane MKll kit. I am looking to do the Ultimate 42009 remote control version. I have located the last two updated parts pages (I hope) and I would assume that I can start ordering the parts required for this Ultimate build! If someone would give me a little guidance as to the correct parts required and also where would be the best places to purchase these parts, i would really appreciate it! I just finished up the 9396 Rescue Helicopter build and now I am really hooked!! Thank you all for help and or advice you can give me!! Rob Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Just sign up to rebricable.com and enter your currant sets, then find the ultimate mod and it will calculate your missing parts. Quote
twwd Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Alasdare Ryan, Thank you very much for the information, and directions! I am a little new at this, but with what you have given me I think I will be able to put together the extra parts needed along with the kit itself to build the Ultimate 42009 Crane! Thank you, Rob Quote
twwd Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I am sorry to be such a pest! I am really wanting to build the Ultimate 42009 Crane! I have the 42009 basic Crane kit. I do have three questions that I would like to ask, and any help would be appreciated. If you go to Jurgens Technic Corner and go to the Ultimate 42009 you will find his PDF instructions and some PNG images. I am confussed as to which parts list to use. 1. Complete parts list Part 1 & Part 2 (PGN-image) Question: Are these the additional parts (Parts 1 & 2) that I will need to purchase ALONG WITH THE KIT to build the Ultimate 42009? 2. Additional Parts (PGN-image) Question: What does this additional parts (PGN-image) Are these additonal parts on top of the Parts 1 & 2 that will be required also? 3. Instructions (PDF, 103 MB) Question: I assume these instructions will work in CONJUNCTION with the kit instructions? I would really appreciate any input to the above three questions! I just do not want to go out and purchase a bunch of parts that I do not need for this build! Thank you all for any help and insight you might give me! Rob Quote
Zimix Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 2. As you already have the Crane 42009 you ONLY need to look for the additional parts. Forget about Complete part list 1 & 2, those are when you have more sets and mixed up all your parts and want to build again this ultimate crane. 1. Complete parts list 1 & 2 have all parts needed to build it. 3. When you build the ultimate, you only need Jurgens PDF instructions. Quote
twwd Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Thanks VASSAL! I think I understand what you are saying! Parts list 1 & 2 show the parts that are included in the 42009 Crane kit. The only parts that I need to purchase are those that are shown under "Additional Parts (PGN-image). These plus the original parts in the kit will build the Ultimate 42009! Jugens Instructions (PDF, 103 MB) will build the complete Ultimate 42009 Crane! With this info I can now move on with the project. Thank you very much for the info and help! Rob Quote
Blakbird Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Jugens Instructions (PDF, 103 MB) will build the complete Ultimate 42009 Crane! That is correct, however keep in mind that Jurgen's Ultimate 42009 is not the same model that has been discussed in the last few pages of this thread. That model is the Grove GMK 6400 and instructions are not yet available for that one. Quote
twwd Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Thanks Blackbird! I appreciate the clarification! At least now I can get started on the Ultimate 42009 build now that I have the parts and instructions squared away! Love this stuff! So much to learn, and the array of builds that await out there are endless!! Need to check with the wife, I think I am going to need a bigger "Hobby Room"!! Thanks again, Rob Quote
kamsohal Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 hi i have made the model and have made a few mods in terms of 4diffs,5 steering from the cab and 5 steering from the other side, and also extended the boom to 17 4 hole smooth panel.im asking how do you stable the boom without effecting the function. twwd Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Hi Zimix! sorry I called you VASSAL!! Thanks for all the help you provided! Rob Quote
Zimix Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 No worry, Rob or twwd you soon will be a vassal too Quote
twwd Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I did locate the EXTRA parts list needed for the Ultimate build of my 42009 Crane kit! I have been to "Bricklink" and I have found all the stores located in the USA, and there are many! I am going to assume that you folks must of done the same?! And that was to purchase the required parts from several different stores in order to fill the parts list! I did purchase all the electronics and motors from the Lego shop, so I am in good shape in that dept. If there is a better way than what I am doing to fill the rest of the parts list any advice would be appreciated! I have always found in life "That's its not the finish or the finished product that counts, its the fun in the JOURNEY getting there!!" Thanks for the advice and help you folks have given me!! Rob Quote
Blakbird Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Yes, Bricklink is the best way to go. It often takes a dozen or more orders to get all the parts you need for a Technic MOC in the USA. Quote
twwd Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 OK! Thanks Blakbird! It's good to know that I am now on the right tract!:-)) Quote
Zimix Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 a little of topic, Rob, in Bricklink, play under "Wanted" tab, with "my wanted list" tab and "by shop" tab. In last tab, select your wanted list and sort by: Lots (Unique). This will give you the shops with the most items you are looking for on top. have a nice journey in rembling for your parts. Quote
