FuzzyBallz Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 So while browsing around tonight, I came upon the 8109 flatbed tow truck. When this model was introduced, I was really fascinated by the flatbed mechanism and told myself I need to get this. I saw this at TRU many times and it was on S@H for a while. But for some reason, I never got around to picking it up due to work and other obligations. And now that I have a little time to get back into Technic building, it's no longer available at retail outlets. I need to either pay double the MSRP price to the scalpers for a new set, or I'll have to fight with other AFOL for a used set on auction sites. Sigh... so stressful. I should've gotten it when I had the chance. Would look amazing next to the new 42008. So what's that one set that you really wanted but missed the chance to get it when it was new? I wanna hear it! Alternator Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) I've actually got that one in my cupboard still waiting for a rainy day to build. Depending on how bothered you can be, you may find that there is a store within range that still has old stock of it. No guarantees but could be possible. In regards to a technic set that I missed... err well since coming out of my dark ages I have gotten all technics that interest me, except the 8053 crane which for some bizarre reason never showed up in any shops here . I could have got it online but they didn't seem to have those free shipping deals so I would've ended up paying an extra 80 bucks on top of the rrp for it :hmpf_bad: I can comfort myself with the 42009 at least (once finances are a bit more solid since I did just outlay for a 41999), but I still would've liked the 8053. burntrope Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 8109 really was an inspired build. Sold it off when I was moving countries last year and it still gives me a twinge of regret when I think too hard about it! Quote
bacem Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 i think it's this one : http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8420-1 Quote
Kumbbl Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 None because each model can be bought second hand in very good condition (incl. box and instructions) for a fair price it you are are patient and not in a hurry... with this approach i got quite all interesting sets... Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 The old fire truck with the cherry picker, I wanted it for Christmas when I was like 9 or 10 but I never got it. : / Quote
Chilly Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 With my latest purchase - Control Centre II, I've now got all the Technic sets I ever wanted. Had fun building the hovercraft last week while staying with my dad. The odd way it moves really made him laugh - which was good to see as he had been in and out of hospital for a couple of weeks, and my mum had to go into care as he was struggling to cope with her. So, Lego lightens the spirit once again And I got it really cheap off that well-known auction site. Quote
tibivi Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 8466, when it was out, back in 2001, I was 5 years old (I had already several large technic sets build then) and i wanted it. My parents said then; you may buy it when you have the money. so, when i had it, the 4x4 was not in the stores anymore, i bought 8366 then. In 2010, i bought one in perfect condition for 80 euros. And now, i heve two, the second for 60 euros. Tibivi Quote
peter_m Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 8480 Space Shuttle! I hope Lego will be reasonable and make a new studless version. Quote
Bricktrain Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I also would have liked 8053, I didnt see it in any stores here either but did look at it on S@H, then it was $199NZ but would have been $80NZ shipping also. 8263 was another that I couldnt find and have had to build from parts. I will probably build 8053 from parts soon to complete my mobile crane collection, though the B model I think I like better so may have to build both. Quote
Freekysch Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I really regret not buying 8285, for me it is a very cool set/truck, but the prices are so high that i really do not think i could ever afford it. On the other hand, i have bought 8258 for a very good price a few months ago (less then 150 euro) so i am very happy with that. Quote

It is an awesome set that brought many of us back from our Dark Ages, there are not too many rare parts so I would suggest to build it from parts, it looks good even without the stickers, I do have a couple of sticker sheets though. jadedomg Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I have only been buying sets for 2 years but I wish I had bought a second 8070, when it went OOS I had no idea that it was such a good parts pack as I only had 4 sets at the time. Quote

I came across two of those for sale in a newsagent on skye a couple of days ago...I think they were for sale for £80. Edited August 3, 2013 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
The Ghost Racer Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I would love to buy the set 8466, I've always wanted, but as always I deicdo too late to buy what I want, and it is now out of production. It's really rare and expensive unfortunately. I like very much, because I think it is the first big off roader 4x4 ever produced and uses as many as 3 differential is easily motorized, but even so it is very nice to me. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 In fact absolutely none, I can make me any anytime. Quote

I haven't seen it at any stores in canada in 2 years. You don't see much technic on shelves and if you do it is usually the smaller sets except for right before christmas toysrus had piles and piles of 9398 I would love to buy the set 8466, I've always wanted, but as always I deicdo too late to buy what I want, and it is now out of production. I would love 8466 but it was before my time so i don't let not getting it bug me :p if I went back in time for all the sets I want I wouldn't have any more space in my house and my bank account would be empty! SheepEater Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 8443 technic log loader.... You ain't missing much. It sucks. The only reason I still have it is that I'm somewhat of a 90s technic completionist. Quote
