I explain my case... Before I represented any vehicle that I liked and I spent a lot of time thinking and building mechanisms but eventually the opposite happens to me and is very annoying... Now I spend more time selecting which to build that building it. The question is this, have you some method of selection to make your MOCs?, what are your preferences?, must have many functions or just to like?. I think there are many questions about this topic, if you think of another put it here too I would like to know. Sariel has a good method in my opinion, he makes a MOC´s plan and he builts them.

I have a list on my blog of stuff I'd like to build  not that I've really built any of it yet though as I get sudden urges to build certain things, or get an idea

building is fun for me, and not the goal. so i have no problem to set a moc on a very long waiting loop (logging Truck for example) or dismantling it when i have no fun with this moc.

Well when I want to build a new MOC its starts in different ways:

1) I see something and become inspired to build it on a whim(doesn't always work)

2) I am bored and start building random functions/mechanisms or axles, and if something clicks, I go with it and build the whole thing.

3) I really want to build something that exists in real life and I plan (find blueprints, research etc.) I have yet to do this but I hope to very soon.

About #2- Right now I have different unfinished ideas laying on my desk or in bins because I don't want to finish them just yet but I don't want to take them apart in fear that I will forget how to build it again

I don't necessarily play with Technic a lot, but between aesthetics and playability, I like to change it between models. What I like to do is make a base model in LDD, then Clone it and change the clone as I see fit. This leads to a huge mess in a single LDD save, but seeing differences between models lets me gauge what I like, what I don't like, and what I should try to incorporate later.

My first model made was hardly beautiful, but had a LOT of features that you didn't see with other MOCs. My second model made was a lot better looking, but didn't have many other features and in some ways used unconventional means of building. If I were to take a screenshot of the current save file of my second MOC, you'd see a couple of almost-identical hulks littered throughout. Some with new features, others removed, etc.

I don't get much inspiration from the outside world, but that's what LEGO's about. Letting your creativity run wild. I'll reference something else from time to time, but otherwise I like to try my own ideas and see how they would play out.

i usually watch a ton of pictures of cars, bikes, atvs and stuff to get ispired...then i choose between them, by thinking about the scale of the wheels, panels and the features that i can include to have a challenging building experience :)

but mainly i focus on proportions...i've excluded lot of models that i liked because proportions weren't so nice

I have a huge list of mocs that I want to build, but at the rate I build at, it would probably take me 20 years to complete my list. I just have to pick and choose what I plan on building. Most of my ideas just come from things around me, mainly trucks and machinery that I see as I'm driving. I also get other ideas from browsing the internet, often while trying to do research on a different project.

I know what my next 2 projects are, and I have the next few mocs after that narrowed down to a handful. I also have several other mocs in various stages of being built, but it will be a while before I finish those. I generally have 2 or 3 mocs that I work on simultaneously.

Building is the fun part for me, so once a moc is built, I may display it at a show or two, then disassemble it and use the pieces for something else.

legomuppet9 - In fact I have a list too I call it "to built" it is a folder and it has more folders... cars, trucks and heavy machinery and the last one has graders, skidders, front shovels, dozers, cranes, wheel loaders, tracked loaders and more...

:cry_sad: , I would need a big blog  .

efferman - You are right for me building isn´t the goal but without an ambitious goal the building is less fun in my opinion.

z3_2drive - I always use your number 3.

Mataroa - No doubt the LDD is my weak point  .

piterx - We do just the same, the scale of the wheels made me leave many MOCs by not getting the exact proportion, I'm just working on building custom wheels by rubber bricks.

dhc6twinotter - I am unable to build two MOCs at a time, it is a mania... .

I usually become inspired to build something after seeing pictures of it online. Then I will do some research and print out blueprints. The hard part can be finishing the model after that initial inspiration is gone  .

I consider than spending lot of times selecting the model you want to create and then reflecting how to create it in lego is part of the fun when designing a MOC, but it just my opinion :)

I like learning how real vehicules work

It is really my case! I have very much ideas and no so much time for building. Ideas are everywhere - outside the window, in movies, in telecasts on Discovery Channel and so on...
