Kumbbl Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Good morning (at least in Europe ;-), i have a problem with the 8258: This picture (not mine) shows the crane completey folded, ie. the third arm section (the extractable one) is parallel to the middle arm section when the third arm and the second LA is completely retracted... The situation with my current build is different: if the second LA is completely extracted then the middle and the third arm sections make a almost straight line, and when completey retracted it is NOT parallel (as in the picture shown) but stays in an angle of about 30 degree or so... I have checked the instructions step by step but have not found any mistake... so: anybody out there with an idea what can be wrong? Thanks a lot in advance! Edited July 24, 2013 by Kumbbl Quote
legolijntje Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 That's a problem that has occured often. Most of the time, people have placed this part wrong. Check in the book if you placed it correctly, so the little bit that sticks out (not the axle) is pointing in the correct direction (I don't know ho to explain it more clearly ). Quote
Kumbbl Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 ah, my fault.... but not placing a part wrong (that one you mentioned is played correctly as all other too) but not nderstanding the folding mechanism: i thought the second LA can retract he upper arm segment so it stays parallel to the middle arm, but this does not work, because the second LA is already fully retracted when the upper arm has still an angle of about 20 - 30 degree. But what works is (suppose both arms segments are somehow extracted for work): 1. extracting the middle arm almost fully (ie. the first LA) 2. then retracting the upper arm segment (ie. the second LA) completely as far as possible (ie. the second LA is fully retracted) 3. retracting the middle arm competely (ie. the first LA): and this causes the upper arm to fold in its parallel end-position "guided" by the lower arm (the not moveable) - is this understandable, i can not better descibe it... 3 works because the middle are segment can be folded till parallel by hand even if the second LA is already fully retracted... conclusion: with this approach it works for me: the question is now: is this also the approach Uwe Wabra (the designer of the 8258) had in mind? ;-) Quote
