Please define MMORPG

...without using the term 'duh' please.

You mean MMOG? Massive Mulitplayer Online Game. i.e. World of Warcraft.

That was the fastest response ever! Thank you!

Starwars4j refers to MMORPG which must be Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

That is what I am inferring. Wow, it stinks that I work from home on a computer and will probably slip into dork MMOG LEGO world and lose all my clients, friends, family, life, etc.

Cool!

We don't know what kind of game it will be, but MMORPG are pretty much MMOG. An online version of the SIMs would be like an MMOG, whereas an MMORPG would be like World of Warcraft. The difference being whether or not you control a character.

I still don't think it will be a very successful venture for them...

Well, MMORPGs in my opinion really work best with some sort of epic storyline. I think this game will be a huge success with the younger crowd (like who hangs out regularly on the Lego.com boards, but I doubt it will really grow much into the AFOL audience. I mean out of all the Lego computer/videogames made, the only one to really take off was a Star Wars one (most of which were bought by Star Wars fans who don't even like Lego that much).

I mean I'd be glad to be wrong, it would be another money-maker for Lego, but I don't have my hopes up for it

Good point. I hope you'll be able to build houses like you create characters in WoW. That'd be great if every piece ever created was available!

I'm an avid MMORPG player, currently I'm beta testing Lord of the Rings Online. =D

I think this could really be a success. LEGO has a whole bunch of fans, and they've had some popular computer games. I mean just the Lego.com games are like the most popular web games on the Net. If they had this I think a lot of people would be interested in playing.

MMOWise, it would be a pretty unique venture. Especially with the "build your own content" thing. I think even people who aren't into LEGO could like this game because of some of its features. If they advertise it well and keep prices lower than normal MMOs(at least a discount of some sort to get kids to play), it could be a big hit. They could stick ads for it inside LEGO sets, the LEGO Mag, etc...

Let's hope they do this right.

This seem sinteresting. I am not an MMORPGer myself, but I will probably play it. It would be cool to see what other people would make a minifig of their self like.

Hopefully it isnt too much like Blockland

(Dont want them to be the same) And that it's Free.

I'm sure that it won't be free.

I have never played any online gaming yet, but, yeah, I would give it a try next year.

Game on.

A little Off topic : You should try Guild Wars, there is no monthly fee and I'm totally addicted to this game since nearly 2 years. There is a strong community of players.

The MMORPG market is flooded already. Players only have time for one of these games. The only chance Lego has is to market it at kids. Still, I doubt kids would be allowed that much time behind a pc. I know I wasn't when I was younger.

I didn't even have a PC!

This sounds like it could be very interesting.

I personally hope they go for something like Blockland: You play as a customized minifig and go around building stuff with others. I assume they would add quests or tasks, some kind of experience/rank system, and a more in depth over world. That would be kinda neat.

But I instantly see two things that could ruin it either way;

-Hordes of disrespectful, 1337, 10yr olds. (That's a given in any MMORPG anyway.)

-And the inevitable censor.

This sounds intriguing, and there is a lot of room for creativity and open ended-ness. The two biggest problems, like optimus mentioned, are the kiddies and the censorship. I just hope that the censorship doesn't go too far (as in eliminating competition or the potential for WAR!). The subscription could be another negative factor if not dealt with well.
