Captain Green Hair Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Lately I've been building quite a few cars. Since they (mostly) can be done in just an afternoon I find them a lot of fun to build. This is just a first batch I'm posting, you can expect more to follow. I hope you enjoy these, feedback is more then welcome! First of a classic, the 1965 Dodge Charger. I still want to make it into a general Lee version, but for now the Mopar colours will do. Next up another Mopar classic, the 1965 Dodge Challenger: Next up is another true muscle car, the 1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport. Of course it is chopped and lowered: And now for some Caddy's, first of the 1960 convertible in a two tone blue: Next up is perhaps the most famous one, Elvis's 1955 pink Cadillac Fleetwood: And last but not least; it is a blatant copy of Misterzumbi's 1957 Chevrolet. It only has a few minor changes by me, but I love this model so much I felt the need to promote it some more. Credit for the whitewall tires of course go to Mijasper. Other inspirators for my car builds are Misterzumbi, Sheep, Leichtblau and Hoexbroe. Thank you for sharing your ideas gentleman. Well that's all for now, stay tuned! Quote
Legogal Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 WOW! Reminds me of the Caddies I saw as a child! During the late Fifties, my best friend's Granddad drove a pink convertible Caddy in the oil fields of West Texas wearing his ten gallon hat and cowboy boots like he was the coming of God! I remember sliding back and forth with my best friend Duncan in the big back seat covered in white leather as his Bompie ripped around corners showing off that monstrous doll car. Don't ask me how a West Texas oil man got away with driving a pink Caddy convertible, but he was a pretty big character and drew some serious attention. His car had the monster pointed tail fins that fatally impaled many an innocent crash victim. And no one laughed at Bompie because he could be a very mean SOB, especially when he was drinking, which seemed to be always. But he always was kind to us kids, especially when we sat quietly in the blistering heat while he made frequent stops at the liquor store. I think his wife preferred his pickup truck so her oil paintings would not stain the white leather, so he took the Caddy most days. The other cars are super cool too...the Charger colors may have been some of the original ones because I do remember solid orange and solid green ones. My brothers and I used to sit on street curbs and name the model and year of each car that passed by...we got quite good at it without anything else to play with except sticks and stone and dirt. Thanks for the memories. Elvis is cute, too! Quote
Chilis Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Incredible! So detailed and really look-alike the originals. Thanks for sharing! Quote
monsinjor Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Awesome cars. You really did great job on these. My favorite is that black Buick. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 AWESOME highly detailed and that pink Caddy is just beautiful 'CRH'......they are all AWESOME ! Brick On 'CRH'......Elvis has left the building ! Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Excellent work on these antiques and classics CRH! Lovin' the Buick and Caddy's Quote
Hoexbroe Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Oh! -First of all, thanks for the mention. It´s quite an honour to see my name mentiones with the big ones among minifig-scale car builders. (They are also MY inspirations) Lovely collection of cars! I think I like the red one the most. There are two things that I( generally dont like about your cars; 1; The differente in height between front and aft on the black and blue ones. (For the orange it´s okay ;-) 2; The narrow wheel-arcs on the black, green and orange ones. (I think it works better with cheese-slopes) Will we see more cars for this collection¿? Quote
Only Sinner Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 These cars are beautiful, especially the Caddies! It's true one used to be able to tell the cars apart from a distance as to the make and model of each. Now they all mostly look so similar. It's like they have no character at all, at least not like these. You don't see anyone making artistic renditions of grey plastic jellybean cars very much. Bring back the Detroit style, I say ! Quote
AVector Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Loving the old school cars and all the details you packed in; I really like the lime and orange muscle cars. Great work Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 Thanks for all the nice comments guys, I appreciate it! Thank you for your feedback! I'm not sure what you mean by height difference, in the blue one the rear wheels are slightly lower (or the car higher) and on the black the back lid is 1 plate higher (but that's no dofferent from the orange and lime car). Is that what you mean? The wheel arcs are a matter of personal preference I suppose, I think both look OK as the difference is quite minimal. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I'm not much of a car builder, so these are extra impressive to me. I love that pink cadillac the most. What torso is being used for Elvis? Quote
