ch_ris127 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 1. Hearing that someone 'threw' out their LEGO sets since they thought it was useless. 2. Having a pile of bricks fall off the desk while building MOCs, especially if these bricks were tiny miscellaneous parts and studs...and having to search for them under tables, chairs and hard-to-reach places. Then finding some more when sweeping the room....argh. 3. Having to go back, reassemble an entire Technic model just because you placed the technic pin ONE stud in the wrong place. 4. Misplacing the brick separator and having to pry apart tight bricks using your own bare hands, fingernails, teeth, and whatever tool you have with you. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) Uhhh, its a fun hobby (More like Lifestyle!), but there are some things that make me cringe… 1) Searching for a specific vital piece for hours, and not finding it; then finding it a week or month later. I so much hate this one. 2) Destroying then re-sorting bricks. I love building things, and I’ve made so many mocs, but having to re-sort pieces is one of the most annoying/boring and time consuming tasks related to organized Lego (Hah, is it like a religion?). 3) Target’s Find in Store Button. I’ll explain: A while back when the Iron Man 3 sets just started coming out, I found the Malibu Mansion set at Toys R Us, and spend a little extra so I could be the first to review a new Superhero set. Worth it. Then I waited a week or so until the standard release of the rest of the sets, since I very much wanted the Extremis Boat one. I go to Target online multiple times, and one day it finally says they have it in-stock locally. I get in my car to go there, and after a minute of driving I get a flat tire. I fix the tire rather quickly (This is Lego and nothing slows me down!), and I get to Target. Surprise, Target online is always wrong and they didn’t have any of the sets. Angry at Target, and needing something out of this trip after having to change a tire, I drive across the street and am forced to pay extra for the same set at Toys R Us. Annoying Fail. CptPJs Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Oh, this. Don't remind me of my experience building the middle of the Quinjet. Better yet, nearly finishing the Quinjet, thinking you've made a mistake, breaking most of it back down only to find out you were wrong about having made a mistake in the first place. I nearly threw it at the wall when I realised. Quote
escortmad79 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 1. Lego prices in America being cheaper than they are in the UK 2. Polybags being available in America & other countries which never seem to make it to the UK 3. Being offered old Lego collections & not having enough money to buy them! (Happened to me twice but still have contact details for both of them) 4. Friends saying they still have their old Lego but won't sell it (Especially the one with the rare light up starwars figures!) 5. Dropping parts on the floor when building on my build desk 6. Missing steps out of instructions & wondering why the parts won't line up Quote
just2good Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 2. Polybags being available in America & other countries which never seem to make it to the UK Conversely, polybags being available in the UK and Europe while not in America. I need those Marvel polys! Quote
Kivi Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Incidentally bumping an open box of sorted bricks and sending them all around the place, most likely into other boxes of sorted bricks. It keeps me busy for a while to sort everything again, especially when plates and tiles of the same colour get mixed. Quote
Legofin2012 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Another thing, hoovering up pieces, especially when it's a chromed stormtrooper, and having to look throw the Hoover bag to find it. Quote
Kez Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 1) Building the general grievous star fighter set and then when placing grievous into the cockpit armed with his gun the set falls apart/ explodes (too much pressure, btw this happened twice). 2) Dropping pieces onto the floor and searching ages for them until you notice your mistake. 3) Hoovering pieces up/losing them. 4) Going to the car boot (flee market) and losing out on a great buy. 5) Looking ages for a piece for a MOC and finding it weeks/months later when the MOC is finished. 6) Not buying all of the batman 1 sets (which I now love). 7) Applying stickers to sets and they go completely wrong. 8) Missing out instructions in a set. 9) Lego prices else where being cheaper than what I bought it for. 10) Dropping a set or losing a vital component to it once built. I could go on..... But I won't LOL, just my 2 cents worth. Quote
Infernum Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 1) Accidently pushing over a tub of pieces (what makes it even more annoying is if you lost a piece you'd been searching for in the mess. ) 2) Seeing a piece you've been looking for in a tub, and then not being able to find it / losing it when the pile shifts from putting your hand in. 3) Accidently knocking a completed MOC/ set off a shelf and having to rebuild it (sometimes even losing parts in the process so you can't complete it! 4) Dropping a piece off a table when building a set, then not being able to find it on the floor, even after days of looking. Its like the set is taunting you, sitting there incomplete. Quote
naf Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 1) Throwing an unneeded piece back into a big tub, only to find out that you need it 5 minutes later. Then you spend the next 30 minutes looking for it in said tub. 2) Needing a special printed brick for a model, and realizing you accidentally buried it in the construction of another MOC as a "normal" brick. Now you have to disassemble it and inspect each piece to see if it's the printed one. 3) Realizing you don't have room to permanently display all of your Lego models in your home. Then you spend the afternoon disassembling and bagging them up for storage, because *someday* you'll have the space Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 1) Opening a new set and finding the stickers and/or instructions bent to sheet. 2) Seeing new sets with store retail stickers applied to box. 3) Many the same as others have mentioned Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 (edited) 1) Spending forever looking for a piece that I just saw moments before realizing I needed it. 2) Spending forever looking for a piece that is already in my hand (yes, I've done this). 3) Having 1/4 of my LEGO 2300 miles away from the rest. 4) Not having enough space for my LEGO. 5) Constantly dropping pieces on the floor. 6) People who say, "You have too much free time" when looking at my mocs. Balrog Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 2) Spending forever looking for a piece that is already in my hand (yes, I've done this). 6) People who say, "You have too much free time" when looking at my mocs. As for #2: I have done this too. When you realize, that you had the piece in your hand while searching it for the last 15 minutes makes you really feel stupid. Being ashamed of yourself in such a moment is really bad. But having the piece is so relieving, so the bad feeling is most instantly neutralized. For #6: People do not actually understand that this is "work". Of course it is a lot of fun, but still, it it "work". It's not just ordinary building. When a grown man or woman chooses such a hobby, there of course flows a lot of time into it, but still this is something very different than just sitting in front of the tv and many people simply don't understand it is a hobby. Ask those people what they do in their free time. Quote
Sid Sidious Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I hate it when I have one useless piece that just sits there for years. It just gathers dust or takes up storage space. I see it all the time, and wish I could do something with it. Later, I start a MOC. I get to a point where I need a certain piece. I suddenly realize that useless piece was basically designed for this MOC. It's like someone in Parts Design at LEGO predicted I would need this piece for this one MOC 20 years after the piece was designed. Then I can't find it. Quote

That search button applies to Walmart also. Stores can't keep inventories up unless they stock items for a big planned holiday. I was looking for Captain America's Avenging cycle on all Walmarts around my area and according to the store online it says it's in stock in the store, then I travel to the store and realize half of what online says is not in stock. I even called and talked to a store helper and he verified it for me. What's funny is that I went above and beyond to search other than walmart and for some odd reason wanted to head out to Target and found a bunch of them so it was a lifesaver. But my moment is that when I bag my Lego sets into storage carefully making sure no piece is left out, and later on sometime decide to re build it and find that I am missing a brick. Don't know how, but it goes missing. Luckily I have a bin full of spare parts from my sets than covered this problem FOUR times!!! This applies to new sets also, I was building a couple of new sets and I guess I didn't empty out the bags good enough because sure enough it was semi stuck in the bag... Quote
rriggs Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Not in any particular order: 1. Disassembling sets and MOCs 2. Sorting parts from said disassembled sets and MOCs 3. Realising how badly I treated LEGO pieces when I was young and needing those butchered/painted/broken parts now 4. Misaligned or crooked stickers 5. Standing minifigs on smooth surfaces 6. Seeing people (not kids) with LEGO who don't appreciate what they have 7. Having hands/fingers that are just too big! Cheers Rog Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 I hate the way that if you have a tub of unsorted bits and you are looking for a small bit in a certain color you can sort through for ages but eventually find it. Then if you sort the bits in that tub into neat piles/containers or whatever, finding that you don't actually have that bit? It happens all the time, but I am not sure how a random pile of bricks can manifest the one you want that a sorted neatly stacked pile cannot! Quote
Legopast Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 When you are at the LEGO store and see a wonderful new set, you reach out and hold it! and then your bank account whispers "put it down" and you have to leave empty handed, Quote
