bats Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) Hey. I am building a technic model in MLCAD with two Bionicle Ball Magazines(53550). To connect them I use an Axle Joiner(59443). The problem is that the ball magazines are naturally curved. I can't get the axle joiner to rotate to the correct spot. Is there a way to rotate an object besides the buttons? Maybe something where I can type in how much I want to rotate a piece? Then I can get the axle joiner to connect to the two ball magazinesThanks,Nathan Edited June 21, 2013 by bats Quote
Classicsmiley Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Are you familiar with MLcad's grid settings? I usually customize the rotation angle for the finest grid, and set it to either 1° or 5°, depending on my needs. Also, when I have entire assemblies that need to be rotated, I usually put them in a sub-model, so that I can control the rotation point a little more easily. Also, you can directly type in the location and angle of a piece. Just right-click on the piece, and select "Enter Pos. + Rot..." Good luck! Quote
Lipko Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Entering an angle? That option is disabled (grayed) for me and I can only enter the rotation matrix. What can be the problem? Quote
Classicsmiley Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Yes, it appears I gave you incorrect information. I just checked, and it looks like it's not possible in v3.4. I checked Ldraw.org, and it's been confirmed as a bug, but no fix timetable is known. One person mentioned that they were going back to MLcad 3.3, and hoping they didn't need the Undo feature... http://forums.ldraw.org/read.php?11,6132,6132#msg-6132 Quote
Philo Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 ...or you could use SR3D builder, The snapping/auto-orient features makes this kind of assembly a breeze! As for MLCad I faintly remember that rotation by angle feature is was already broken in 3.3 :( Quote
bats Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 I noticed the rotation boxes were grayed out for me too. I fiddled with it but I couldn't get to enter anything. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 www.hollywood.it have some tutorials for general MLCad use and rotating models as well. I haven't used MLCad for serious editing very recently though, so I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about. Quote
