z3_2drive Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) One of my goals this Summer is to build a large 'stanced' car. Stanced refers to a style of car customization where cars commonly have low ride height and negative camber, but I'm not going to give it too much negative camber because then it's just stupid, also this is a version 2 of my large RC car, which never really worked. Features: All wheel independent suspension with slight negative camber, driven by 2X buggy motors, powered by 2X 10v batteries, servo steering. I hope to include a body at some point, should be easier at a larger scale...but first I will show you the chassis I finished today: ^rear suspension is a modified version from Sheepo's MPS ^front suspension I designed myself, and I like it, easily adjustable(shock placement) and robust ^maximum negative camber when compressed ^steering is very responsive and angle is good ^Of course with such a large car I had to use some studded beams... Two main concerns at this point: 1) I need to find a correct size nylon washer to fit on the differential because the torque from the buggy motors causes it to slip, which is why I use a proportional remote for now 2) If I am going to build a body to scale I will need to increase the wheelbase but for now I'll leave it alone. Hope you like it and feel free to leave any comments/criticisms. Doc_Brown Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Arrh, just make your own from some old plastic lid. I made some shown below, work great! but under massive stress will slip. Why exactly do you consider the model above to be a failure? :) I can see the steering geometry needs to be swapped towards the center of the vehicle not the front, for much better steering, you have plenty of room. tibivi Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) I like it, what is your main goal on this car? The looks or functions? Because it won't be very fast, Greets' Tibivi Edited June 19, 2013 by tibivi Quote
Balrog Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Looks very interesting and promising until now. Only thing that somehow disturbs me, is, that the front suspension arms seem to bend. More precise, the "axle and pin connector perpendicular 3L" with which you have mounted those new steering hubs. In my noobish opinion they should be reinforced a bit more. That one 5L beam to hold the distance seems to not be enough. Quote
piterx Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 hmmm! i like your idea of making a large car but i don't know how much rc motors can make it! i mean probably for that scale you'd need 2 L motors...even because i guess that at the moment you're at 800-900g isn't it? with the body the weight is gonna increase more! I'll make my own if I don't find any at the local Lowe's I would swap it around but the way it's built there's no way to rigidly connect it to the main frame from the other side And the model is not a failure I was referring to different one from a while back because it was too complicated, heavy and fragile. I like it, what is your main goal on this car? The looks or functions? Because it won't be very fast, Greets' Tibivi I'm not really sure, once I finalize the chassis I will decide, and trust me, it IS fast! Looks very interesting and promising until now. In reality they do not bend at all, that '5l beam' is made up of two of the new 5l thin liftarms with the +ooo+ hole pattern, It's very strong. hmmm! i like your idea of making a large car but i don't know how much rc motors can make it! i mean probably for that scale you'd need 2 L motors...even because i guess that at the moment you're at 800-900g isn't it? with the body the weight is gonna increase more! At this point the car drifts well and has nice acceleration, and a HIGH top speed If I build a body I will have a go at the flex axle style Sariel used with his Zonda, and some reinforcing beams too of course. Also, the negative camber makes drifting easier, which is why professional drift cars all have negative camber to some degree. Thanks for all the suggestions/questions! EDIT: With the body this will be a car built for top speed, not low speed torque. Edited June 19, 2013 by z3_2drive Quote
timslegos Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 What style body do you plan on putting on it? Also how does the negative chamber help drifting? Frame looks great so far though. (STILL waiting for a tutorial on your 10v batteries ) tim Quote

(STILL waiting for a tutorial on your 10v batteries ) tim I made a topic about my batteries already negative camber decreases traction if it extreme, and slight negative camber allows for a greater contact patch when leaning into turns, giving the car more control, and For the body I hope to do a Honda S2000 Quote
