jFox Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I recently got a bunch of Space Police III sets, and I'm thinking of building a base for them. The official headquarters (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=5985-1) seems only so-so to me, and not really worth the prices on BrickLink or Ebay (though I do like the big blue domes and the garage door). I saw the recent police station set from the city sets (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7498-1) and was surprised at how much better that would look as a Space Police HQ. After reading the review on here it seems like a good starting place. Has anyone done something similar? Or could you make recommendations on sets I should look at? Sets with a lot of white, black, and trans-blue would be useful. Quote
DPrime Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 combine the two then go from there That was my immediate thought as well. You could make a pretty awesome MOC that way... Quote
Faefrost Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 combine the two then go from there That. And maybe throw in some stuff such as the Iron Man Malibu Mansion set for some nice detail pieces and those nice big white curved slopes that can be used to add some "future styling" saucer shape highlights to the structure. Zanki Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Combine the two. I've got the police station before this one and the space police set merged. I love it. I think I like it so much because the Space Police stuff reminds me of a cross between SPD and the Time Force Police. Quote
Jargo Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I would just look for the large trans dark blue panels and windows that came in classic space sets on Bricklink or ebay. Futuron and Exploriens had some cool pieces. Then combine those with white and black bricks and the world is your oyster. This door This panel which does come without the numbers This big quarter dome This hinged half dome This dome but obviously in trans dark blue Plus loads of different windows and vehicle canopies, bricks, panels and plates. A lot of these also come in white and black. For the money you'd spend on buying an old set with only a few really useful parts you could get a whole bunch of terrific stuff by cherry picking the pieces you want on Bricklink. I rarely buy sets these days. Most of my collection is bits and bobs bought from BL or Ebay. Mostly because old sets are stupidly expensive and just buying separate parts from loads of different sellers allows me to pick up some bargains. Quote
