Legoman Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Hi all! I've finally had the time to finish off some things, and get the final parts onto my custom base for 3450 Statue of Liberty. I'd wanted the set for quite a while, so bought one earlier this year... Sold off some of my Star Wars UCS' to pay for it - by far the most I've ever paid for a Lego set! But The model is definitely impressive - plus, the way I see it, you win some & you lose some. I know others pay through the roof for a UCS Millennium Falcon or Eiffel Tower, both of which I got 30% off, so I understand sometimes paying the earth for a particular set is just part of the game.. None the less, I certainly try to not do it often! Anyway, the base is a custom by myself, reverse-engineered and based of aspects of several other I noticed and liked. The base is made in 3 rather distinct sections, and a solid rod through the middle to hold the weight. Here are some pictures: Here's a picture to get an idea of scale - Lined up next to the other 3 landmarks LEGO has done - They've certainly set a high standard for themselves! Needless to say I'm really looking forward to the Opera House coming later this year! If you look closely, you can also see set 42006, the Mini statue of liberty sitting at the base of the pedestal. To see the whole set of photos, head over to my flickr page. I do apologize for the quality of photo's - I've tried my best but because of the size of it all, it was somewhat difficult. If you'd like any addition info or photos, just let me know and I'd be more than happy to help out! I'd love to get your thoughts or comments, so let me know what you think! Personally I love the model, and it really does make a fantastic display piece. Quote
Missing Brick Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Very nice. Cool to see the 4 sets side-by-side. Unfortunately they're just too darn big for me to display with the space I have here :( Quote
L@go Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I agree, it looks great on the pedestal. It's a wonderful sculpture on its own, but it really needs a pedestal. Here's mine, built from instructions I bought (very expensively) on eBay: I did actually have all the big models at one point, but I sold both the Tower Bridge and the Taj Mahal MISB (at a hefty price) because I realised they would just take up so much space that I really don't have. Sad, but true. The Sydney Opera House does sound incredibly tempting though, might need to try to find room for that :) Quote
LO 21 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Legoman, great job! Your Base came out wonderfully! Do you know about how many parts it took to build? L@go, how are you?! :) I'm actually the builder and seller of the Base that you have :) It looks amazing as well! Did you buy it from me in the US, or as a resale from someone else? Congrats to both of you for awesome-looking sets! Quote
Legoman Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Sorry LO 21, I just noticed your question! Shocking! I estimate probably around 7000 bricks It was a good fun design and build though, even if it took me far too long to finish Quote
