couchsofa Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) To understand the origins of this MOC of 20 299 pieces I should probably explain that I went through a phase where I watched all LOST episodes in reverse order ... that probably accounts for the strange constructions and the plane-crash as well as the "native" buildings in the trees. But then there are still mecha and the choppers, well I guess floating hover cars and bikes, too. But as in LOST, not everything has an obvious reason to be in this weird place. The Mechs: Hover Car and Bike: The Choppers: The trees are inspired by a MOC of Endor that I saw on youtube, I can't remember the source. The idea is to build a the trunk in a pentagonal shape and from there on I made the trees and houses modular: Plane Crash: Indigenous HQ: Treehouses: Chopper Landing Site and Border: More Treehouses: Indigenous Border: Check Point: I'm still trying to render the whole set, so you will have to wait a bit for the composite image. Just as a little appetizer a top-down view: High Res resources can be found here. Edited May 29, 2013 by couchsofa Quote
Kintobor Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Oh wow, that's really neat! Nice build! I like the little details like the plane wreckage and what not, and your ships are excellent. Though I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the Sci-fi. It's borderline both, so perhaps showing to the Sci-fi forums would be beneficial too! Well done! Quote
DraikNova Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Was your WIP name for this "Project Awesome"? Because every part of this MOC seems stuffed with NPUs and greebles. Quote
Rom1Kno Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 this digital MOC is awesome ! you got so many great ideas, and the basis of the set are cool ! it reminds me a bit of the avatar movie ;) Hope you'll be able to build it IRL one day, would be awesome to see it in real bricks Quote

Nope, I don't know "Project Awesome", I probably should take a look at it! On another subject, what are NPUs and greebles? it reminds me a bit of the avatar movie ;) Now that you mentioned it, there's most likely some inspiration from Avatar in there as well. Here is the rendering of the full set in hd: Edited May 29, 2013 by couchsofa Quote
Rom1Kno Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 really nice ! could you tell me how many parts are there in this MOC ? i wonder there's around 10k , am i right ? The cool thing with it is that it's fully playable, i mean there's a lot of scenarii possible, with this border and check point Quote
couchsofa Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 could you tell me how many parts are there in this MOC ? i wonder there's around 10k , am i right ? I'm afraid you gonna have to double that, 20,299 pieces in total. Quote
Rom1Kno Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 man that's enourmous :D would be a real challenge to build it IRL, i'de love to have such a great amount of parts to build a gigantic MOC like that Quote
DraikNova Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Nope, I don't know "Project Awesome", I probably should take a look at it! On another subject, what are NPUs and greebles? NPU = Nice Part Usage (Usually "Nice" means creative in this context). Greebles are complicated, mechanical-looking details. Quote
couchsofa Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 NPU = Nice Part Usage. Greebles are complicated details. Well, in this case I would have to lie if I don't admit that I'm flattered :) Which details did you find interesting? I'm curious because I wouldn't consider myself an advanced builder and I tried a lot of new techniques on this MOC just because it was hard to fit houses on a pentagonal tree and it was my first try on building mechs. DraikNova Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Well, off the top of my head, the mech features two: the use of tubing as a windscreen (or whatever the proper word for it is) and the walkie-talkie as part of a weapon. Quote
