Paul B Technic Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Something I have been thinking about (and I don't know if LEGO have ever released any stats) is the most and least popular sets by sales numbers? Are the larger sets the best sellers or are more likely to be the smaller and cheaper sets? What would number 1 be? Quote

The_Skirrid Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Rebrickable has 8043 first, 8110 2nd and 8070 3rd currently. Rebrickable is for a different kind of Lego fan though, but I expect sales numbers must be pretty much as Brickset/Rebrickable lists. Quote

Rijkvv Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 What about older, discontinued sets? At the moment it's logical that 8110 is more popular than 8421. Maybe interesting: Lugnet top 100. Quote
Hopey Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 In terms of total units sold, I'd be very surprised if big flagship sets like 8110 would top the list. I was browsing somewhere recently (I can't for the life of me remember where, so no link sorry) which had a kind of leaderboard of sets with the little 7741 police helicopter at the top, which kind of makes sense, as it is a small set which was released in 2008 as far as I know is still available. I imagine the all-time best seller would probably be a collectible minifigure of one series or another. Bricklink tracks actual sales (through bricklink only, of course) and records how many wanted lists each set is on. Brickset also has stats of how many people own and want each set. These of course are also probably skewed in a similar direction as Rebrickable. For every 'serious' collector who voluntarily self-reports their inventory on one of these sites, how many kids are there out there with just a handful of smaller sets, who doesn't? And how many of these kids have unimogs? I don't know if TLG would release their own sales figures, so we may never know. Quote
