gylman Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070212/sfm126.html?.v=49 I am pleasantly surprised by this info (has it been posted elsewhere?). Seems that Spongebob is a smashing success. Avatar not mentioned... that sounds bad Exo Force going strong Town strong Bionicle still strong Star Wars strong Creator Strong NXT the #2 most wished-for toy among American boys ages 9-12(4) and the top-selling LEGO item in the U.S. Really??? Lego seems to be crushing the other companies. Quote
dillthepill Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Yup, LEGO sure is doing great in the US. I haven't seen Spongebob on shelves in the US forever, which means we are running out of it. Exo-Force, Bionicle, and Star Wars are the most popular, and Creator and City have been ok too. It's gonna be fantastic in the summer as well. Stores will be restocking many times a day cuz LEGO will be selling like crazy. NXT is doing good? I don't know anyone that has one, but whatever. I've never even seen them in stores at all. Anyways, thanks for the find. Quote
xenologer Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 interesting I would have expected that Avatar then EF to come before Spongebob Not that I like Avatar by any means :-X , just that it probably appeals to kids... NXT is popular? among ages 9-12?? Thats really surprising, considering they changed it to all Studless technic parts. I would've expected difficulty building and frustration and so on... Quote
KMOI Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Avatar not mentioned... that sounds bad BLAST! Grrr, this news does not bode well. But I guess it was expected, seeing as how even though the show now has a massive following, not too many of the fans could dish out enough money to buy something like the Fire Nation ship. A line that was cursed to fail. :-( They really should have just had smaller sets, kinda like the medium sized Orient Expedition sets rather than those massive ones we ended up with. I'm sure Avatar would have done absolutely stellar had they done this. Seems like the LEGO Avatar fans will have to go underground and build their own minifigs and sets! NXT is popular? among ages 9-12?? Thats really surprising, considering they changed it to all Studless technic parts. I would've expected difficulty building and frustration and so on... One word. Bionicle. Even though they do use alot of really simplified pieces, it really builds the foundation for technic. Besides, building was never an issue in terms of Mindstorms. It was the programming! Since the NXT is kinda like a merger of Mindstorms and Spybotics, there's almost nothing bad about it! Keep it up LEGO! Keep on rocking in the new industry! Quote
dunamis Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 The NXT news shocks me. It seems there are tons of these on Ebay selling well below MSRP. Overall this is fantastic news! Quote
gylman Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 I wonder if the NXT "great sales" are the ones we are seeing on eBay for lower than retail. After all, those were bought from Lego. It's not that I don't want it to succeed. I want everything from TLC to succeed, so they can do more cool AFOL stuff. But it does does not accord with the evidence of my eyes and ears. There was a huge pent up demand for the next gen mindstorms, so I guess we are seeing that demand finally unleashed. Whether it carries into the next few years is what counts. Anyway... GO LEGO! Lego seems to be crushing the other companies. It seems avatar isn't selling too well from where I live at least. I visited a local shopko and found two of the $50 fire nation ships on clearance for half off. (I was only able to pick up one because of low cash reserves.) They also didn't mention vikings at all... which pretty much confirms that we won't be seeing their theme again, I guess (although I thought I could make out a few vikings in the background of the new Castle Theme's poster). Everything else sounds great. Kudos to TLC for making 2006 a wonderful LEGO year. Let's hope this year's even better! Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 That is great. good job Lego! -ZotS Quote
Commander Xalax Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I can't believe I liked Mega Blocks for a year and whiched when I was 7. Lego should be going stong. They are the best plastic building hobbie ever!! But they also sell good because of the last 3 videogames they released. Quote
