Paul B Technic Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) I was lucky enough to get set 8461 (Williams F1 racer) the other week from a good friend of mine who wanted to sell it, after leaving it built on my shelf for a week I decided I wanted to see if a B or C model existed for it, my search turned up this building guide: http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=47708 by Nathanaël Kuipers (http://www.nkubate.com/) These are for the Silver Champion which is the same set just in a different color and with a couple of different pieces. Come Saturday morning and I spent a coupe of hours pulling the Williams F1 to pieces, sorting the pieces and starting the building process. As I was building this off the screen of my tablet at times I struggled to tell where pieces had to go, and with getting some sizes right. As I was building it based on a different set I also had to switch the colours in a few places, this meant going backwards and forwards with the building guide to make sure I have enough of each colour to keep it looking uniform. It took me about 8 hours all up to build this, it would have been much quicker if I didn't have to swap the colours over and search for pieces. Overall I had to use about 20 pieces from my own collection as these were missing from the set I had, the only major pieces I had to use that don't match are the two black panels above the rear wheels, I am looking at ordering these in the right colour in the future to make it look better. This was my first time building a C or D model and it was quite enjoyable and challenging. EDIT: Photos and details now on my new page: http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/p/8461-d-model-nathanael-kuipers-nk-sport.html Edited June 9, 2013 by Paul B Quote
SheepEater Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Nice, good job! Did you make an inventory of the parts you had to substitute, kinda like what I did when I built 8458's Silver Truck B model with the parts from 8461? Quote
rumpletump Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 It looks good with this colour Did you find a way to shrink the whole thing to micro scale or is that a massive blue lego brick on your table? Quote

Did you make an inventory of the parts you had to substitute, kinda like what I did when I built 8458's Silver Truck B model with the parts from 8461? I did keep a list but then I showed it to my mate who I purchased it off and he said that he had swapped some bits when he built the Williams F1 so my list is not 100% accurate. I will type this up and post it once I get a chance. It looks good with this colour Did you find a way to shrink the whole thing to micro scale or is that a massive blue lego brick on your table? I don't have any magic LEGO shrinking abilities, that blue brick is one of these: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Office-Supplies/Stationery/Pencils/Pencil-Cases/LGL320 Quote
Doc_Brown Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 NIce model! I think that's a good effort for 8 hours. So I'm guessing that you are Australian? From that link. Quote

Blakbird Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Really cool. I've often wondered how this would look built from 8461. However, it looks like the two blue panels on the front near where the headlights would be are backwards. Compare with this picture: Quote

Paul B Technic Posted May 26, 2013 Author Posted May 26, 2013 Thanks to Blakbird for point out where I had the two front panles on the wrong way, fixed and new photos uploaded with the fix done: http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/8461-d-model-nathanael-kuipers-nk-sport.html Quote
