pocketmego Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Generally, I am not a collector. Even back in 2001, I was taking TOA apart and MOCing, even before I knew there was a term for it. Even now, so far only Rocka remains on my shelf and even that is my 3.5 MOC. The rest have been pieced and parted. So, I kind of surprised myself by gaining an interest in getting the original 6 HF figures. I just felt like maybe the first run of a new line is important (kind of like getting the original TOA). But, BULK (The cheapest) showed up today and I dunno... He makes a stryking enough figure. But, that body...yuck. And they are all kind of on the expensive side of the after market, considering what they are. Stormer is an utterly ABSURD price. I'm already considering the need for some of Bulk's parts...which probably answers my question. But, I did want some of your opinions. What do you guys think? Quote
Takanuinuva Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I would rather get there parts from bricklink. The only good thing about the original six heroes are there helmets (Which you can get in there breakout variants), Feet, Translucent hero cores, and ther weapons. Other than that there all basically the same build. My only original Hero I still have built is Furno and he is on my Furno Bike revamp. Quote

DraikNova Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) I´d recommend not to get them. The only one who´s weapon is useful for MOCcing is Furno, and his plasma blades have appeared in multiple other sets. The other pieces, as you´ve already found, are more or less useless for most MOCs. Edited May 14, 2013 by DraikNova Quote
ZORK64 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I'm also more of a MOCist than a collector, but I also appreciate well-designed sets. Since I own three of the original heroes (Stormer, Bulk, Surge), I can give you some insight on the issue: The original Hero Factory sets are basically Agori-sized (or Bionicle Stars) figures with a whole bunch of new parts. While they look alright, I wasn't too fond of them due to their limited poseability (especially the leg design, which resulted in limited poseability for their ankle joints). However, I do like their torsi (which is a nice alternative to the Agori torso, it also can be used without the hero-chest armour), and at least Surge and Furno come with nice weapons (same goes probably for Breez, but I don't know for sure since I passed on her 1.0 set). The weapons of Stormer, Bulk and Stringer are crap though, since they are all a single, hollow piece which can be hardly used in any other way. Personally I don't see much appeal to put all six of them on my shelf (mostly because I already designed MOCs based on them). In short, I'd recommend you to get their heads, maybe Furno's and Surge's weapons and maybe the torsi on Bricklink. Otherwise they aren't worth it. Quote
CabooseBM Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I thought they were really nice looking figures, but they fall short in functionality. I would suggest tracking down Furno, Surge's, and Breez's weapons and helmets if you haven't already, The chest pieces are nice looking but aren't very versatile, but the arm/leg pieces make for dandy lower arms/legs when you want something more unique.
