Wow, thats alot to keep up on! Me , i like F1 (reading up on it more and more every day now :-) ) American Lemans GT series, rally dakar rally, Baja, but my absolute favorite right now is drifting! ( as you can tell by my avatar;)Went to an event a few years ago for my B-Day and have been hooked ever since. The smell of race gas, tire smoke, and the sound of engines bouncing of the rev limiter! There's nothing better! *y* X-D

Here's a question. What makes a certain motor sport apealing to watch/follow up on? With so many differnt forms of racing i'm curious why people like the sports they do.

Ussually for me, the cars have to resemble or be the same as the ones on the street, just modified for the paticular racing event there entered in. Not a fully tube chassis car that has a fiberglass body over it (this is why i don't like Nascar). F1 and GT are exeptions because

1.- I love the sound! :-) Espeacally of an F1 car going through the grears and down shifting. Almost as sweet as an american big block V-8 with open headers! X-D

2.- F1 and GT are some of the most technilogical forms of racing out there. You have to respect that.

Hey, we are not weird. That's a good MOC though.

I don't know why i got hooked on F1 so much, my dad loves it as well, and when i was younger, he really introduced in to me, but yeah, i do love the sound of the cars, when i got to race meetings, they sometimes put F1 cars on the track, and it's amazing, you can here the thing go all the way down the track, and on the long straits....man, they are awsome machines. How come you are getting into F1 more then 5150? Don't tell me it's because shumi left, afew people i know have only started watching it cos he has retired, and that anoys me.

I think i know why i like le mans, they are aswome machines having to do such long distance races, i mean, don't get me wrong, F1 cars are (supposed to be) reliable, but i bet that there would be a load of cars retiring from a 24 hours race.

I know why i like touring cars as well, unlike F1, you can go in the garages (when the pits are open to public) and get the drivers autographs and have a little chat with the drivers, but you can't do that at F1 meetings. Okay, the pits get crowded, and okay, you have to cue for ages just to get 2 autographs, but actuly geting really close to your heroes and talking to them, it's awsome.

Atually shumi had nothing to do with me getting back into it. Though i must admit, it will actually and to the suspence of the season now that he has retired. You have to admit that. :-)

It probbly has to do with the fact that speed chanel is going to have better coverage this year. (last year you were lucky if you saw a couple of hours ever few months, unlike there nascar coverage witch was about 4 hours a day... no kidding *n* ) I'll alos have a chance to strart watching it from the begining this time instead of catching bits and peices hear and there. Should be a good season with all the new changes this year.

We have an old corvette sting ray in our garage.

Well fortanatly here in the U.K there is a channel that always put the race on t.v when it is live, so i never really have to worry about that, but yeah, america kinda got fed-up with F1 after the poor 6 car race at america a couple of years ago.

This year has a load of suspense, There is loads of talent like Lewis Hamilton, Felippe Massa, Kimi Raikonen, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Hekki Kovaliven and quite afew more.

Oh, here are the testing times from yesterdays sepang test, note, not all cars will have shown there full speed and not all cars took to the track:

1. RAIKKONEN Ferrari 1m35.258s

2. WURZ Williams 1m35.702s

3. COULTHARD Red Bull 1m35.712s

4. R SCHUMACHER Toyota 1m35.751s

5. KUBICA BMW 1m35.887s

6. HAMILTON McLaren 1m36.115s

7. SATO Super Aguri 1m36.306s

10. BUTTON Honda 1m36.617s

Thanks optimax! I'm curious to see what Alonso's times. are gona be. Think he made the right move switching to maclaren?

Humm, I will have to say NO. The only reason he did it was for more money like always and regreted it just after !! Oh well, I loved the combination Renault/Alonso !!

It seems that for once MacLaren has a good car so after viewing the first GP, it seems that he was right BUT on the overall he won't be World Champ you'll see !!

I will love to see how many Ferrari Kimi will "kill" :-D

Anyway, I hope that Renault work a bit more as I want them to be WC again hehe !!

Renault On !!

First, hate to be picky, but it's Mclaren.

Secondly, i don't think so, i mean mclaren did not win a single race last year and they had many retirements due to relability issues with the engine and gearbox. One a program i was watching about Mclaren a couple of weeks ago, one of the bosses summed it up right saying that if they have a repeat of last year, they will turn into a laughing stock.

It's okay, i use www.f1.com or www.itv-f1.com and sometimes www.autosport.com to find out what has happened in the world of F1. But as i said, it's a challenge to read the times as cars don't set times or don't push there hardest.

I can't see renault winning the championship again, Fizzy is hardly Alonso, sure he is a good driver, but he is not great. Kovaliven, well, i was not really very impressed by his performance, going of countless times, and finishing out of the points that renault can't really afford to do. Yes, it was his first GP, but look at Hamilton, podium in his first race.

I expect Mclaren to be the biggest threat with ferrari, and the first race proved it, they don't really seemed to have the same pace as ferrari, but that could change through diffrent rounds.

Ferrari, well, great race, it was a shame what problems Massa had in quali and then getting held up badly in the middle of the race behind slower cars, but Raikonen was great, a lights to flag win, and after his last pit stop, as long as he had no relaibility problems, it was his for the taking.

I think either Mclaren or Ferrari will be champions this year.

It was not Raikonen for all those cars breaking on him, he drives hard, but as you'd expect from anybody in F1.

More testing times from today, rainstorms effected the running:

1. HAMILTON McLaren 1m35.918s

2. WEBBER Red Bull 1m36.138s

3. SCHUMACHER Toyota 1m36.700s

4. LIUZZI Toro Rosso 1m36.712s

5. MASSA Ferrari 1m36.947s

6. ROSBERG Williams 1m37.070s

7. BUTTON Honda 1m37.472s

8. DAVIDSON Super Aguri 1m37.606s

9. HEIDFELD BMW 1m38.551s

10. KOVALAINEN Renault 1m39.654s

Ferrari ON!

sorry- Mclaren :-P

It was a toss up for me. I have to agree with yoda that the Renault/Alonso combo was great. Unfortuntly money (and polotics of course) go hand in hand with racing. But i think that mclaren hopfully got all the kinks out this year as they claim there more deadicated to F1 this year. but if they do in fact have a repeat of last year, it won't matter who drives for them. Can't win a race if the car keeps breaking down.

I'll be routing for Ferrari and mclaren this year. If Mclaren can get there cars up to par then it should get interesting.

What about other teams, i have to say, seeing toyota at melbrone was a shock, both in the top 10. Williams have seemed to improve a lot, Nico Rosberg having his best finish in it, redbull look quick and are regurally at the top of the testing times, but with such a complicated car, it could be there un-doing. BMW look very good, it seems like they will be a threat to the constructors title and are a very proffesional team, so should be getting regural podiums. Super impressed by super aguri with there new car, Sato doing and excellent job, finishing ahead of the works honda cars! Impressive feat, just to think last year they were always coming last. Honda did not look that good, Jenson in particural. Finishing down in 16th when he should be a race winner now will not impress anybody. Alot of work to do for them. Spyker and Toro Rosso, well, quite frankly, were hopeless. The teams in which i think how good they are

1.Ferrari

2. Mclaren

3. BMW

4. Williams

5. Redbull

6. Renault

7. Super aguri

8. Toyota

9. Honda

10. Spyker

11. Toro rosso

Well you know I wouldn't "kill" Renault just yet ;-) They had a small budget compared to Ferrari, BMW, Honda and MacLaren and still got 2 WC bion a row !! Meaning they know cars and F1 !! Lets NOT forget that Renault invented the V10 for F1 and had loads of WC titles before ;-)

Also, its not only a question of good car or good pilot, its a combination of both !! I really like De la Rosa as a pilot but unfortunatly for him, he never had a good car !! G he's a great pilot, what a shame !!

Lets not forget that this is the first GP, and Renault never put bloody Bridgestones crap tires on their cars, it do takes some adaptation hehe, like having new pilots !! I am so confident on French engeneers !! Renaullt has great potential and will win this year WC ;-)

Renault On !!

Come on, be realistic about the current situation.

I'm not saying they are bad, i'm saying they did not get off to a great start, and they seem miles away from Mclaren and Ferrari. And actuly, they have the 3 biggest budget, so they are not struggeling for money.

They have had plenty on time to adapt to the tyres, like everyone else, mclaren and BMW had to adapt in the same ammount of time and beat them in the first race and constantly through winter testing.

I woudn't call brigestone crap, america 05? Only 3 teams competed, all 3 brigestone teams. They had the better tyre that day, so i can't understand the crap that came after that directed at those 3 teams, it was michelin's fault for not having a safe tyre to race.

Final testing times from today

1. KOVALAINEN Renault 1m35.757s

2. MASSA Ferrari 1m35.808s

3. DAVIDSON Super Aguri 1m36.787s

4. ROSBERG Williams 1m37.002s

5. MONTAGNY Toyota 1m37.206s

6. HEIDFELD BMW Sauber 1m37.318s

7. BUTTON Honda 1m37.326s

8. HAMILTON McLaren 1m37.448s

9. WEBBER Red Bull 1m37.778s

10. LIUZZI Toro Rosso 1m38.542s

11. KLIEN Honda 1m39.175s

12. DE LA ROSA McLaren 1m39.100s

Well Massa not that far off Kovy, BIG suprise about davidson being there, but i don't expect it to be "real" Button has finnaly got one over on Hamilton, but let's wait for next weekend to see the outcome there.

nobody kill me when i say this but i really find F1 boring. You sit there for about 2 hours watching some cars go around a track. How rubbish it must be to buy a ticket and then you only get to see the cas for about 5 minutes and then thats your money spent.

i usually watch it for the first corner because half the cars usually go out there anyway in a big cool crash.

this is my opinion and obviously you like it am noting wanting to cause an argument im just saying what i think, no doubt you find football boring optimax! ;-)

You what? You only watch it for the crashes?

Man.... don't get me started!

You know those drivers are real people, who are just like me and you, and you enjoy watching them crash and getting injured or even worse, killed?!

Sicko! Man, i know other people like that in my class, they are such idiots saying that.

Yes, football is more boring that watching pain dry. How some half brained idiots kicking a ball around and faking ijuries is considered entertainment is behond me. You actuly need a brain to be in F1.

What is more frustrating is that everyone gets over hyped about england in the wrold cup, but they get knocked out quicker than you can say "i told you so....again" But we have proper talent in motorsport like Lewis Hamilton, David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Antony Davidson, Andy Prixual, Dan Wheldon, Matt Neal, Jason Plato.....and more. There is more chance of one of those drivers winning the championship than england winning the world cup in the next ten years.

How talentless, brainless, over-payed, over-hyped idiots get more attention than proper talent in motorsport....it's just crap to be honest.

i know what you mean about england the the world cup. Everybody thinks that they will win but they never do they are so bad. But i dont think its as boring as paint dry like a fat guy could drive a car around afew corners and jenson button isnt exactly amazing either.

I kind of have to agree with you there. However, I have to admit, I admire the technology of the cars, etc. Some of the engineering and design is superb. The cars interest me more than the drivers and the sport.

I don't think they'll win.

Actuly, caswindu, you can't be more wrong, you would not fit in the cockpit of the car if you are fat, they have to train every day, running, in the gym, driving, proper athlets.

Football....i get so mad when it comes on T.V, i feel like i want to smah something up.

Yes, the technology of the cars are amazing, and they drivers are havind do do more and more now that alot of driving aids are being banned in future years.

Yes, Jenson Button is not amazing, but you missed the point about Lewis Hamilton. He is the biggest chance of having a british champion in F1 for a long time, he has a good car, he is super talented, so he could be the next Michael Schumacher.

Ferrari and BMW ON!

You can find soming boring in an sport. weather it be motorsports, or regualar. It all just comes down to personal taste. I won't bash you for your opinion. Its your and your intitled to it. As long as you respect those who like it, then there shouldn't be any hangings tonight :-P .

I personally hate nasacar. Now THATS boring. As a comedian once put it..."its a bunch of *cencered* driving around in a circle for at 200mph for 3 hours.!!! There making a left turn...and another left turn... and another... and another... Gee,.. a wonder whats gona happen next??!! *n*

Posted

Yeah, i'm not a big fan of nascar, indycars is way better, watching the qualifying online right now.

Lewis Hamilton is super talented, he won the F1 sister series quite easily, got a 3rd in his first race, it was so nearly 2nd.

you know what game you guys would love!:

Toca race driver 3 (i dont like racing and this game is amazing! *wub* )

I know, i have it, it's pretty easy to beat when you have racing tactics and a steering wheel though. I want them to make a toca race driver 4

I don't have that game, but i have seen trailers and read abou it and it sounds good.

I quite like F1, and espcaially with a grandprix in the streets of where i live, i can watch it from my balcony without paying anything!
