Paul B Technic Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 (edited) The other day while looking at my collection I thought it might be a good idea to mount the claw off 42006 on to 8043, last night I sat down and had a bit of a look at the best way to do this. Here is the end result. The problem I have is that when the claw gets to the fully closed position it bounces around as can be seen in the video on my blog, what is an easy way to fix this? A clutch gear somewhere in the drive line for the claw? Video on my blog: http://mizibunktechn...from-42006.html Edited May 7, 2013 by Paul B Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Howdy mate cor that's some bounce in the old girl.... (cough...cough) the simplest thing to to is just add some sort of limiter to the out ward movement of the grab (were the grey1/2 bevel gear with hole is). Quote
Fatteh Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Looks like there's plenty of room to put a linear clutch (using friction pins with stop-bushes and a pin joiner) in that driveline. No idea if it would work though. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 The problem is that the small tan gears are trying to turn the grab when it is closed, which in turn is forcing the grab to move outwards. Quote
imajor Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 (edited) Use u-joint instead of bevel gears at the claw. You will need to redesign a bit the upper arm, to make sure none of the u-joints will meet more than about 50 (?) degree, otherwise they won't work. Edited May 7, 2013 by imajor Quote
Doc_Brown Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Wow that is some bounce! "Narr I don't feel like working today" Says the Excavator ! Reminds me of a Croc, snapping food! Putting in a Ujoint should solve your problem. Thanks for an entertaining video! Quote
Sharkyla Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Looking at getting the 42006, would it be too much effor to put a scoop/bucket (much like the 8043) So esentially doing the opoosite of whats happening here.... Quote

No that should be very easy to do,you would be better with a long LA though to make the bucket curl in and out. Quote

I bought a cheap 8043 and I want to turn it into 42006 by adding the claw..thanks!!! Quote

legomarat Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 maybe you can add second bevel gear with pinhole on the axle. It will rotate in opposite direction, thus canceling movement of first one. I have no idea if it gonna actually work. =) Quote
D3K Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) That would work only for a set angle, effectively locking the movement of the Grabber, so the it wouldn't pivot freely around the axis on which it is suspended Edit: hope that made some sense..:-) (tried it on a car once):-) Edited May 13, 2013 by D3K Quote
CisFran Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) completed my 8043 with claw, love it!!!! thanks to imajor for the idea Edited May 17, 2013 by francisalmario Quote
