I built a SHIP.

It's taken about 3 months, but, thousands of parts later, here's a 120-stud long spaceship with a petrol station on the top.

And it swooshes. There's video evidence to support my claim, too.

Build-wise, I'm fairly happy. There's a slight stress point somewhere near the middle (and by slight, I mean the SHIP will snap in two if you're not careful. I found that out the hard way.) but it's mostly structurally sound, thanks to 20 years of accumilated technic beams, no doubt. I probably could have added a bit of polish, there are for example no pictures of the underside because there's nothing there but white plates. But still, all the easily visible bits are detailed. The impossibly visible bits are also fully detailed, by which I mean the crew cabins. The plan was for them to be removable, but plans change and they're now only accessable by grasping firmly and wrenching them off the bottom of the ship.

This was going to be a space pirate ship, but then worker201 made a snarky comment about how all spacers build is guns or cargo. So here's something different. Enjoy.

Let me know what you think, there's plenty (too many) pictures to look through here. I say this now, there will soon be some more as I deconstruct it. Yeah, this isn't going to last much longer. Onwards to bigger and better things, no doubt.

SPACE!

I'm not a big fan of the asymmetry at the front, but the details and trim coloring are really cool! I also think the petrol station should be a little lower as that whole setup looks a little spindly at the moment, but I'm just nitpicking now; it's really a fantastic ship.

Cool, but I'm confused about how the Space doods and doodettes are supposed to refuel. Do they have to get out of their personal transports and space walk over to the nozzles? Sounds dangerous!

The platform throws everything off scale, the ship itself looks like it's supposed to be ginormous but the platform with minifig-scale pumps makes the ship feel a lot smaller.

Only thing I can think of is to make several pump stations in a smaller scale, that way you could line-up tiny ships on the black platform waiting to get refueled. Too bad you have to wreck this ship, now where will our space citizens get space gas!

Anyway, bonus points for asymmetry :]

Beautiful. The platform on top is interesting, the asymmetry works well, the train cow catchers are a real NPU and all those little details add up to a great build.

EDIT: Oh, and the link doesn't work.

Thanks all!

Wolf, I released WIP pics to a select few of my AFOL heroes, and the overwhelming consensus was that the platform needed to be high, my original prototype was a lot lower too.

Hench, the scale's deliberate. This is a comparatively small support ship in the vast OCTAN fleet, only 14 crew members. A microscale version of this, at an even huger scale, would be very interesting indeed. And for what it's worth, there's two crew members on the platform refueling the ships in some pictures, check out the full photoset for more pics!

Draik, fixed the link, thanks for that heads-up.
