(Mind you, I have no clue as to how the origin of the Toa have been retconned by now, so my idea is nearly completely invalid)

Turaga Dume told the Nuva that no, they didn't fall from the heavens, their canisters, with the Nuva inside them, were shot from a different island.

Well, apparently its gonna take place in the sky.

What? Is this for real or is it a fake? Good greif, the sky? Man, it's geting desprate. I'd presume this is for next year with the toa underwater this year is it is real.

They could focus on peaceful rebuilding, on common exploration, simple but fun stuff.

To go into space is COMPLETELY uneccessary. There's a whole freakin' world that was started which had plenty to offer story-wise... but it's been left in the dust.

Yep, they don

LEGO Star Wars line was the #6 most requested toy among U.S. boys while Bionicle ranked #2 among most requested brand among American boys in 2006.

Bionicle also saw double-digit sale growth in 2006, eventhough some here stated how they hate the direction the theme has been going the last few years.

The LEGO Brand (as a whole) ranked as the #2 most wanted holiday present among boys 6-8 and as #3 among boys 6-11.

...

Dang it Greg! I swear, I'd love for the Nuva to transend to the heavens just to prove ol' sourpuss Dume wrong, come back and have Tahu knock the living daylights out of Dume for doubting their origin. Y'know, I actually like Makuta!Dume far better than Dume himself.

Not too sure about why Bionicle still has sticky value, gylman, but I'm sure it has to do with all those crazy projectiles. Afterall, regardless of how much we despise the support groups and the storywriters (Greg) for messing it up, support groups are almost never wrong, sadly enough. :'-(

I understand Lego Star Wars success. A household brand name (well, TWO), and the whole minimalistic "cute" factor previously seen only in classic Lego or 100 million successful Japanese toy lines. It's nice to remove the graininess of real life and real people down to it's most basic elements, then return some of real life to them.

It's funny, clever and cute at the same time.

Now bionicle's success... hmm. Well, Assuredly Lego Star Wars has brought alot of kids into the Lego universe, and alot of THOSE kids surely still want the grittiness of real life.

Set-wise, Bionicle delivers that better and cheaper than Batman or Exo-Squad could.

It's positive that the sales are up NOW, but as alot have said, they're gaining that popularity using cheap methods.

In time, things like that crumble into dust with no solid skeleton inside.

Making a quick buck in the toy world is EASY. But making something popular a decade in a row takes well thought planning from a home base.

But hey, hopefully I'm full of horsecrap and everything will work out ok in the end.

And Lego, if you're listening... GO ONE YEAR WITH NO BIONICLE STORY.

I think I'll add that to my sig. :-P

EDIT: Hahaha... missed this.

Any of you who know me probably know the events that lead me to being disenfranchised with BZ, but damn... this is SO worth linking to:

So, Jinzo, do you think the article was a kick in the nads to the new fans or us?

I'm not Jinzo, but it seems to me more like a veiled, layered crit of TLG itself.

Maybe a dig at Bonesiii too. What with his 'ruthlessly elegant' crap.

A Cloud City in 2008? Ugh! Why can't they just go back to Mata Nui, or AT LEAST stay in Metru Nui. We don't need a new island every freakin year.

Posted

I feel what this series needs is a complete reboot Marvel Ultimates/Transformers Classics style. You wouldn't have to retcon a load of crap and could utilise some newer ideas. Maybe have the Rahkshi enforcing Makuta's rule over Mata Nui and the Toa Mata actually starting out as Matoran trying to rebel. The Toa "Metru" could've tried a first time but then failed. Instead of killing them, Makuta turned them into Turaga weaker physical forms and sent them back, thinking that their failure would dishearten the Matoran.

you could maybe have Mata Nui as a mix between Mata and Metru Nui, still natural but with more technological elements (like having the Turaga hooked up to life support systems etc.)

I will have you know that, as a part of my revamped Toa Metru saga, the Toa have commandeered a 'Cityship", ie, a massive airship once meant to house the entire population of its home Metru before it was replaced with a newer design. Multiple newer City Ships have, of course, given persuit.

Furthermore, assuming I get the time/production materials, I hope to turn this into the first episode-based BIONICLE Stop-Motion with professionally finished "sets" for the actual Bionicle sets to interact in. (I'm just that cool of a model builder :P)

So, I have giant ships flying far over Metru Nui doing battle on one another. This would lead you to ask, "How is that not just Bionicle in space, essentially?"

Because its not, and I would probably have to shoot myself if Bionicle ever DID get expanded into space. Unlike most people here, I like both the unique technological feel of Metru-Nui AND the tribal/maori feel of Mata-Nui. Since large airships have always been a part of the Metru Nui universe, I have simply decided to take it and run. But, JohnSocal, next years theme is going to come close enough....

@Gravy Train: I do not think it needs a complete reboot - Perhaps just a partial reboot around 2004 with Greg off the team and banished from any Lego property and replaced by a council of Templar (the guys who did MNOLG) story peeps headed up by Bob Thompson. Then, hire Justin Luchter and Nathan Furst (Justin did the MNOLG music and Nathan did the Movie music) to do ALL the Bionicle music (What the hell were they thinking with that poor Piraka Rock/Rap crap!?) Lastly, fire the complete numbskulls who designed the 2005+ sets (Hollow torsos? Frog-Masks? Bubble-Heads? What the crap?) and replace them with someone competant.

Just my rantin' 0.07 :)

.... this thread has gotten me more angry than I possibly ever have about lego in my life. And it doesn't have to do with the original topic "space bionicle." It has to do with the fact of how arrogant people in this thread are becoming. Seems that in all this lust for the old days of bionicle, people are forgetting that their views aren't absolute and that their might possibly be a different view point that isn't crud. >:-(

Okay guys, when did the world suddenly declare that your ideas and views on what Bionicle shoudl be are RIGHT, and all other ideas are either childish or incoherent. Just because you religiously love 2001 and zealously hate 2005+ does NOT mean that your opinion is any better than someone who religiously loves all of Bionicle. It seems that people are forgetting that there are inteligent people that love 2006, 7, 8, and everything having to do with them. Look at Visorak-Kal. Is he a little child because he loves 2007 the best and doesn't mind the set design. Am I a immature kid because I like GregF's writing a lot and enjoy all the epic complexity of the storyline? (which may be in part because I am sort of a geek)

Why is it that you guys think you are the best fans of Bionicle and you know what is best for the line? You may be zealous fans, but that doesn't necessarily mean your ideas would help Bionicle. For all you know, they might make sales plummet and only please you and your small core of adult bionicle lovers. You guys don't get it: Bionicle is for KIDS! And kid's intrests have been changing a LOT. Kids like guns. Kids like action figures. Kids like lots of action. Why then is it a crime for TLC to put those things in their theme just because you, adults with a kids toy as your hobby, hate what they are doing? :-|

Maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe you really respect the differing opinions. But from what it looks like, you guys all think that your opinions are fact, at least from what I can tell in your writing. I want to actually hear some respecting discussion. But all I hear is one sided talk blasting everything you dislike and acting like you are the REAL fans, and everyone who disagrees or is on BZP is not. And that just sickens me. :-X

Ignoring that post... ^^

We get it, you're hardcore. Anyway, I think, for Bionicle to top this year, they're gonna have to go into space.

Posted

I did not say that at all. You totally misread me, Falls. :-|

I didn't say that I AM hardcore either. I simply said that I have a differing opinion from many of the people here, as does Visorak Kal and other members, and that you guys seem to ignore that other opinions are just as valid as yours. Everyone in this topic is saying things like "the storyline STINKS," and "Bionicle is a Disaster." You guys might as well put the word "Fact" before all of those generic comments, since you seem to think that they are, indeed, fact.

Of course, I could be misreading you guys, just as Darkness did me. I don't know for sure what you guys are thinking, so maybe this is just a big misunderestanding. But I'm not so sure... |-/

Drama, much?

Quite.

And, Grevious, you're hardcore in your opinions, as well. We're not as bad you play us off to be. You've just got a small-minded look at our ideas. Before some of the worse stuff of Bionicle started to show up, we were content. But times, they are a changing. Nostalgia beats out new opinions ANY day.

Who's small minded? By saying that it's a fact that new opinions are not as good as Nostalgia, you are looking at everything one sided. I do NOT have a small minded look at things. I read over many of the longer posts in this topic, and I happen to disagree with them. In my opinion, a year with no story would be a disaster, and would rip the heart out of Bionicle. I also disagree that the storyline is far more terible than the storyline of 2001. It's just different.

Which brings me to another point: many of you love the MNOG to death, as I've noticed, and although I agree that it is a great work of Bionicle, I would not want the people who worked on it to write the storyline of Bionicle today. Why? In my OPINION, while the storyline was great, the actual character development and personalities were almost non existant. Most of the dialogue was meant to inform you of your surroundings, thus very little of it sounded like it was spoken by different villagers. Ga-Matoran and Onu-Matoran sounded alike, and all the Le-Matoran villagers sounded like each other. Worse, even in the times of chaos, the villagers didn't convey any emotion to me. :-/

The bionicle books, on the other hand, have a lot of character in them, IMO. Many of the characters have unique personalities, like Dalu, who breaks the usual nice Ga-Matoran routine, and Matoro, who matures throughout the 2006-2007 storyline and finally realizes he is worth as much as the other Toa. Also, the books have a dark sense of humor, which was totally non-existant in the MNOG. Things like this make me like Greg F's writing better than the MNOG writing.

Which brings me to a third point: many of you guys seem to wish Greg F had never been part of Bionicle, and wish he was banished from it forever. But, like many of the criticisms aimed at George Lucas of Starwars, you guys don't realize how hard these guys work. Greg F. wrote the Bionicle comics of every year, including 2001's comics. He also wrote the Bionicle Adventures series, which even Ravensburg seems to like. Some people call George Lucas arrogant, and he may be, but back before Starwars IV premiered, he suffered through a lot of depression and overstressed work, and that is hard on a guy. Whether you like or dislike their writing, you have to admit that they do work hard. ;-)

Now, is that small minded, Falls? |-/

I think Bionicle and Space should stay seperate.

Maybe they can explore other planets by teleportation or something similiar. Maybe the Red Star?

Posted

Well, with the crazy Sonic phantoms *ahem* air vehicles, I'd kinda agree to an extent. However, since the sets always come first, not story, they may be the reason why the storyline is so different, NOT Greg.

Possibly TLC is the one trying something new, and greg has nothing to do with it? :-/
