Scouty Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Tonight, I was browsing FireFox, all of a sudden, the webpage doesn't load. I close all of the windows down and then open FireFox again. What I find is being confronted by a small window, saying something like "Please click here to use this user". I don't remember. But the window had a whitebox to the right, three buttons to the left ("Add User" "Rename User" "Something Else"). I clicked on "default" but it wouldn't work. So, I was forced to create a new profile I named Temp, thinking I could switch. What I didn't know is that I don't know how to switch. So now everytime I go on FireFox, all of my settings, my bookmarks, my tabs, my links, worked over acouple years, gone, only to find a blank page with a homepage that I never marked as mine before. And now, I'm desperate. I really can't redo all that stuff because of 1. I don't even know where half of the things are and 2. It's going to take me a long time to recoup. it's all gone... So I'm asking, is there anything to be done? To get my settings back? To switch back to "Default" user? Please? I am in need of great help! Thank you. ImperialScouts Quote
KMOI Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I'm not too sure if this can fully solve your problem, Scout, but I hope this can help! I found this on Google. Here goes: I just did the exact same thing, and here's how I fixed it (I'm using Windows XP): 1. Go to Start/Run, and type %AppData% . Hit enter. 2. That should take you to a folder that has a Mozilla folder in it. Open that, and then you should see a Firefox folder. Open that, and then open the Profiles folder. 3. You should have two folders there. Delete the one that ends in .Temp. 4. Reboot. Note, I added in the "Delete the one that ends in .Temp.", because you said you named your new user as "Temp". I'll look for more info on how to switch accounts on Firefox, but here's a solution that has worked for someone! Best of luck! Quote
Hobbes Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 * Close firefox * click Start * click Run * type firefox -profilemanager That opens the profilemanager before firefox starts. Quote
Holodoc Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 This will not help you on your current problem, but it can prevent further problems with firefox, etc. I had that problem your are talking about some time ago. After I solved it, I installed Mozbackup, a freeware tool to backup your settings with firefox, thunderbird and so on. You can tag the parts of firefox you want to backup, so there will no longer be lost bookmarks, extensions and links. :-) Err, to be exact: If you loose the data you can easily bring them back with that tool. ;-) Quote
Scouty Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 Thank you all. :'-) . I got my settings back and back in the default user. Thanks again all! And I will try that Holodoc in case this should ever happen again. Quote

SAMBO10794 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I can't help you...but the (Maybe) good thing about that is, is that it gives you a chance to "Re-Do" some of you bookmarks, and stuff, you know? *sweet* Quote

Asuka Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Watch out. Your computer is evil. 8-| (Poor HAL 9000. It were some execs who Quote
oo7 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I say just ditch the Mozilla. I've had some minor problems with it in the past as well. Now I only use IE, none really has any superior qualities over the other. Let's hope Scout's cpu is not an IBM, I'v heard HAL has many IBM relatives. Although that's pretty unlikely, I bet it's all that evil Firefox is to blame. Quote
Scouty Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Back to IE? EVIL!!!!! I Prefer Mozila, this is my ONLY problem I've ever had with it. Going back to IE is just...ewwwww. Quote
