Kye33 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 (edited) Hi there We recently added onto our house and have our lego town set up there, but now we are thinking of moving the baby to that room so was thinking of setting it up in the shed out the back! It's a tin shed and has no windows, but I live in Brisbane (Australia) and the temps get to 30 degrees plus! So will it make the lego brittle or discolour? I really don't want to put it out the and it become damaged! Has anyone else used a shed to set up their lego? Thanks so much for any advice! Kylie Edited April 27, 2013 by Kye33 Quote
Darkdragon Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 You could move the baby into the shed? Just kidding. More than weather, I'd worry about dust and insects getting in. I don't know if you have mice or anything like that there, but they could get in too. Also no idea about your humidity levels/etc but I don't think a tin shed would protect your boxes much from humidity and moisture of any sort. Might not be comfortable to work in there during the dead winter and summer, so is that enough time during the year that you'll get to enjoy the room? Quote
Laservampire Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 As a fellow Aussie, I've gotta say there's no way I'd even store my Lego in the shed. It could easily get up over 45 degrees in a tin shed on a hot day! Quote
Sid Sidious Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 If the temperature outside is 30 C, then Laservampire's estimate of the internal temperature is still a bit too conservative. The pieces would definitely lose their strength, and probably start cracking. I strongly recommend against keeping it in a shed that isn't climate controlled. If you do want to air condition your shed, the bricks would probably be safe, but that will be pretty expensive. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Could you insulate the shed? It shouldn't cost you too much if you're handy with a hammer Quote
Aussie BJ Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Personally I'd never store my Lego in a garden shed . It gets way to hot in summer and as mentioned above with insects and rodents it just isn't worth even trying. My suggestion is storage storage storage. I only have a small house with 3 bedrooms and all our Lego is in one room with 8yo son. I have built 3 large shelve units for displaying apart of our collection and also built in is storage for our storage. Which is 2 large contains split into sections with colors sorted. When we want to build we just take the boxes out to the lounge room. When we are finished it all packs up neat and tidy and out of the way. Quote
