JamesBenjamin Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I'm getting married in August and the wife and I will be honeymooning in Europe in September. Since this is the most-international message board I'm a member of, I thought I'd ask you guys for suggestions for things to see! Here's the list of cities again, as I fully expect Eurobricks to chop off my title: London, Dublin, Paris, Barcelona, & Madrid. We're not looking for suggestions for "touristy" things, as the guidebooks and travel agency will already point us there. What I'm looking for is out of the way things that are still really cool, that we likely would have no idea about without knowing a local. We'll be relying on public transit (subways, etc) and walking, maybe the occasional cab, so we'd need to stay somewhat close to what's accessible. We're looking for good local restaurants, your favorite dive bar, geek-friendly activities (a really awesome comic/toy shop, for example), shopping districts with local flair, weirder places of historical significance (I'd direct you to Edgar Alan Poe's house if you came to Virginia, for example), or anything else you think might be worth visiting that's not going to show up in a travel website or guidebook. Also: we haven't booked our hotels yet, so neighborhoods worth staying in (central to lots of neat stuff) would be awesome too. I'll be looking forward to you guy's suggestions, and might bump this thread a few times between now and August to get more opinions. Thanks in advance! Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Don't tell them you're American Congrats on your engagement, though. I watched one of Bourdain's Layover in Dublin. He seems to like to go off the beaten track. I can't say for sure, as I have yet to travel abroad, but I loved everything he did in that episode. You could check that out while waiting for so locals to give you better leads Quote
spzero Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 they was something on BBC click news program about off the wall tourism, such as graffiti tours, etc, that would be good for you it was on about two three weeks ago, but cant seam to find it, with out watching it all again. Quote
Stinky Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 (edited) If you have enough time, why not travel north from Paris and go via Brussels (or Antwerp), Belgium to Amsterdam, Holland? Congratulations! :) Edited April 23, 2013 by Stinky Quote
