DarkShadow73 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I made a similar tractor-trailer myself. Though I made the trailer open w/o sides. I used the 9397 Logging Truck as my tractor, just removed the log loader sides, built a 5th wheel for the trailer to connect to. Put two sets of dualies on the trailer and USDOT lighting on the sides and rear of the trailer. Wish I had a way to take digital pics of it, quite impressive. Next project will be designing a low boy trailer for hauling construction equipment to work sites. The lowboy trailer w/ crane on the 8285 Tow Truck's alternate model gave me some ideas but not exactly what I wanted, no huge pneumatic system to connect to the tractor, just a simple kingpin and 5th wheel hookup, got 8 9397 sets so should be no problem, I'm just having trouble with the design of the upwards connection onto the tractor and 5th wheel. I'll use smaller rims and tires on the lowboy as is the design in real life, like the wheels on the 8052 Container Transport. Any ideas welcome on the rise of the lowboy to connect up to the tractor. legosamigos Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 Where did you put the 5th wheel and for what? To connect semi-trailer with truck? Do you have any pictures or any gallery? I had also some semi-trailer on small wheels from 8052 set Quote

I had also some semi-trailer on small wheels from 8052 set @legosamigos - unfortunately I don't have a digital camera, wish I did but money is real tight...I installed the fifth wheel hookup silimar to the one of the back of the 8436 Truck's fifth wheel, and also a working landing gear, two sets of dualies on the rear with independent suspension for each set of dualies, quite proud of it, also bought a lot of 16L dk grey chains to hold down the cargo, even got some zip strips from a hardware store to hold down cargo. I used the 8436 as a tractor as well and pulled a modified trailer from the 8063 set. As far as my latest creation of the flatbed trailer, I used the same size wheels as on the 9397, just removed the crane, and used the PF for a modified winch. I placed the fifth wheel in between the frame(chassis) towards the back and made it solid with 3x3 T-piece liftarms against the frame. The kingpin I made on the trailer (I just used a 3L axle w/ end stop and it works really well. Designing the lowboy trailer to hook to another modified 9397 or even the 8436 is becoming a frustrating challenge for me, I need some guidance in the uprising to connect the kingpin to either tractor. I made this one in red panels and beams and 3 sets of tires/rims from the 8052 set. I am in the process of creating a landing gear, it will have to be much shorter in height, I may use 2x4 liftarms connected together with a long 12L axle, we'll see how it works. Also in the process of building ramps at the end of the trailer(not the wheel end) to unload construction equipment. I gotta get a digital camera. Quote
Eigenbroetler Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 did you try the tipping function with only one linear actuator? im building my own tipping trailer, and i dont want to find out later on that i was stupib to only use one. my will ba about the same length as yours. Quote
legosamigos Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Hallo everyone! No, I didn`t, but I think, that tipping trailer is too heavy for one linear actuator, but You can try. Look at for a weight. This is the top of this semi-trailer. If You can see, I used 23 technic panels 1x5x11, so it was quite heavy. In this truck I used 1 linear actuator for the truck and 1 linear actuator for trailer :) I`m building mobile crane right now (of course based on 9397 and I hope I have time before the official release 42009 :) ), but maybe after mobile crane I will try to build something like this Quote
legosamigos Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Because Brickshelf has a problem. If BS will come back, then You can see the links, but last link should be OK Edited June 28, 2013 by legosamigos Quote
