A build for MOCAthalon, the category being "No Gravity".

Team Zodiacs for the win!

1364654045m_SPLASH.jpg

This program is funded in part by the Allied Nations Education Bureau.

1364441737m_SPLASH.jpg

This is the Deep Space Laboratory, a vast monument to human achievement,

orbiting above desert planet Silica 2 at 91.3 miles.

1364441749m_SPLASH.jpg

Its purpose is to scientifically analyze, discover, innovate, and reinforce anything

and everything in the known Universe. Testing facilities and laboratories of every

description coexist together, working on such specialized subjects as catfish DNA

patterns, rubber melting point analysis, and holoprojecter efficiency. But today, a

much more basic concept is being put to the test...

1364441760m_SPLASH.jpg

“...Gravity! It holds you down on planets, and pulls your ship into orbit, but what

happens when it’s gone? As you probably know, Space Safety Code #3 states

that all spacecraft must run their gravity generator when not in orbit. However,

we have obtained special permission from the Space Council and will be turning

off a minor gravity generator so you can witness the laws of gravity...or lack thereof.”

1364441769m_SPLASH.jpg

“Turning off a gravity generator is unsafe and unlawful, so do not try this at home,

in space, or anywhere else, for that matter.”

1364441781m_SPLASH.jpg

[Deactivating gravity generator]

“Ah, thank you GAV, here we go...”

1364441791m_SPLASH.jpg

“Even as I speak, the phys-lab pod is beginning to stop revolving, and its artificial

gravity field is failing.”

1364441800m_SPLASH.jpg

“Oh...ha! Hahaha! I’m flying! Whoa...help! Aaahhh...”

[Activating restraint system]

1364441810m_SPLASH.jpg

“Thank goodness! Now that I am safely secured, GAV will equip me with a pair of

magnetic boots so that I will stick to the floor without floating around.”

1364441819m_SPLASH.jpg

[Applying magboots]

“The boots are tightly secured with straps like sandals, and generate a strong

magnetic field. To ensure that they don’t interfere with GAV’s machinery, they have

not been activated yet.”

1364441830m_SPLASH.jpg

“Much better, it isn’t safe to be floating around like that. You may not know this,

but I’m quite athletic-I work out once a month. Some of you ladies may want to see this.””

1364441840m_SPLASH.jpg

“This barbell is made of an extremely dense titanium-osmium alloy and would weigh,

on Earth, more than 800 pounds. Yet I can lift it with one arm! How strong am I?”

1364441849m_SPLASH.jpg

“Well, enough of weightlifting. Not that I’m tired or anything, but I’m sure you don’t

want to watch me display my prolific strength the whole time. Do you? Never mind,

here’s something-a ball. What happens when GAV lets it go?”

1364441858m_SPLASH.jpg

“It floats in one place, without moving. There’s still air in here-it wouldn’t move at

all in a vacuum unless it was moved by an unbalanced force-so I could send it

spinning off the walls with a single puff of air. But what fun would that be? GAV, bring

out the baseball bat!”

[sir, in these conditions such force would be unsafe. I highly suggest that-]

“GAV, I’m an astrophysicist. I know what I’m doing. Just do it!”

[As you wish]

1364441868m_SPLASH.jpg

“Excellent! Now let’s see what happens!”

1364441877m_SPLASH.jpg

“Wha - Arrghhhh! My face..”

1364441887m_SPLASH.jpg

[ALERT! Unstable flying object. ALERT! Activating emergency containment system]

[Run program: Commercial brea-]

1364441911m_SPLASH.jpg

“Wishing for a friend? Come to FAUNAS Pets! Here at FAUNAS, we have a vast

selection of all hybrid or natural domesticated species, from cats to bovilizards, and

a wide variety of pet care products. Call the number on your holo or visit us at any of

our 443 locations across the globe!

1364441923m_SPLASH.jpg

“Aaaaaand we’re back. Sorry about that-GAV had a malfunction, as it often does.

Fortunately, that ball was only a foam ball, so my face isn’t too brutally injured.

Still, we will not be experimenting with any kind of projectiles now.

Instead, we will see the effect of weightlessness on liquids-in this case, some...limeade?

GAV, I don’t like limeade. I HATE limeade. Do you have any milk?”

[You do not need to drink it if you do not want to]

“I’m really thirsty!”

[sir, may I remind you that you are on live international television]

“I’m LIVE?! I thought they were going to edit it firs-oh, um...okay.”

1364441935m_SPLASH.jpg

“Well, let’s see what happens now, shall we?”

1364441944m_SPLASH.jpg

“Woah...this is a lot cooler than that “Mentos Soda Geyser” thing that was popular

in the Twenty-hundreds! Look at it, it getting everywhere...everywhere...uh-oh...”

1364441955m_SPLASH.jpg

“GAV? I could use a little help... Help! It’s getting everywhere!”

1364441964m_SPLASH.jpg

[Yes, Sir]

[Activate vacuum]

[increase air pump activity by 34%]

“This could take a while, could you do something?”

[Run program: Commercial brea-]

1364441977m_SPLASH.jpg

A vintage Scifi film, wonderfully restored and improved to today’s breathtaking standards!

In Holotheaters soon!

1364441986m_SPLASH.jpg

“Welcome back! I have had enough of this experiment and will be turning the

gravity back on. The added security is to ensure that everything that would be

safe in zero gravity but dangerous otherwise.”

[Deactivating security measures]

“Hurry up GAV! I’m starving!”

[sorry Sir, you do not have the authority to change that command]

“Pretty please?”

[No, Sir]

1364441996m_SPLASH.jpg

“Finally! Sorry about that folks, GAV’s machinery often runs slowly. Here we go.

LET THERE BE GRAVITY!”

1364442012m_SPLASH.jpg

“Aaaarrrrgghhhh! GAV, what did you do?!? I’m DYING! You KILLED ME! What

happened?!?”

[so sorry Sir, I was running slowly and had a malfunction]

Some afterthoughts:

A big shout-out to Ludgonious (On MOCpages), whose work partly inspired this.

Good luck to all teams, it was a pleasure competing against you all. :)

Please tell me what you think!

Very nice "A Plastic Infinity"!

The small changes to the MOC in each picture are pretty cool, and the playful banter is hilarious!

The clear parts are a great way to do floating objects in-camera, and all those robot arms are nicely detailed and set up.

I especially liked the "Applying Magboots" picture, as it reminds me of the Iron Man suit-up in the first movie.

But why is having no gravity outlawed? It's not unsafe, it's just fun.

Great job, very enjoyable.

This should get an award.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Wait, none of the " speeding balls, falling dumbells, hazardous limeade, etc, etc." had any impact on you?

It's fun, yes, but not when you're as stupid as that holovision host.

And yes, the magboots reminded me of of Iron man too.

Nice, I like the neck crunch on the end shot.

One of my favorite parts.

Hilarious! Really well done

Thanks!

Utterly awesome MOC story.

The story took longer than the MOC.

I really enjoyed that! Great, clear photos!

Nice work :laugh::thumbup:

Thank you both for the comments. :classic:

Awesome use of the garage door pieces for the solar panels. Very clever! It didn't occur to me that you could actually clip stuff to the little stubs!

I didn't take the time to read the story when you posted this... And what a mistake! This is so hilarious and so well brickbuilt.

The ship is built at two different scales and that's awesome. And it's educative!

Thanks everyone! I had incorporated a lot of accumulated ideas into this but it still took longer to write the story than to build the scenes. :snicker:
