Disney closes Lucasarts

After all these years and after so many great games, Disney is shutting down Lucasarts. The fate of Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars First Assault videogames still remain a secret.

When I read this I was so furious. After Disney bought Lucasfilm I was hoping that a succesful company like this can take care of SW but when I saw this article I became very disappointed. 1313 could save Lucasarts and bring back the quality SW games...

Now i fear what they may do to the VII. episode.

Quite frankly, this reminds me of what LEGO did with shutting down LEGO Universe. They decided that moving to a licensing model (as opposed to direct internal development) made the most business sense, and that same rational is mentioned in the Disney press release. Still, I empathize with all of the affected employees.

I've worked in the games industry for 10 years, and redundancy is always lurking from behind a corner. Release a game that doesnt sell and you're millions in the red.

They don't want to take any risks and will concentrate more on casual games, which makes sense in a way, but people are losing jobs.

I don't know, there were rumours that it was almost finished when they cancelled it. But when they shut down the company they were working on First Assault which would have been kinda like Battlefront.

This is why I have lost almost all respect for Disney (it being aside from their amusement parks -- I still enjoy them!) -- what with all their stupid reality TV shows and situation comdies (I really can't (figuratively) stand them! ) in hoarding most of the time slots on TV channels that are owned by Disney, which are supposed to air mostly animation, and now they are laying off and/or firing many, many people from their jobs, so it is really figuratively disgusting of them to do this!! Don't you even get me started on Warner Bros. and even Nickolodeon !
