Lakop Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Hi all, just got my power functions remote parts (ordered on the 28th March via standard delivery and arrived this morning. Brilliant service as I was not expecting them until at least friday. You could save me some time, i'm back at work after easter, by giving me some ideas for steering. I'll be using a M motor and a studded steering rack. Can someone assist me with the gearing down from the motor to the rack. Thanks H PS: I am currently working on a couple of models (non RC) to be shown soon. Like most of us I am eager to try my new parts. Quote
legomuppet9 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) Three solutions that I like to use: Worm gear to 24 tooth gear encased in the thin triangles (I use it a lot in most my MOC's without return to center steering) Or a 8:24, 8:24 reduction Or return to center steering setup. I like using Mahjqa's one he uses in his chassis's or however this doesn't use the gear rack. So for that I'd use sheepo's http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=54104 second one I use most... so yes, there's plenty to play with there just experiment, as in the end it's what you prefer, and what fits best Edited April 2, 2013 by legomuppet9 Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Here is a basic design, you may want to gear it down again for more precise movement. Quote
DLuders Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 You didn't say whether you're building a car or truck MOC, or what the scale would be. There was a previous topic that discussed return-to-center steering. The Power Functions Medium motor clips onto the hockey spring. The two yellow gears shown could be replaced by the Lego Clutch Gear. Quote
z3_2drive Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I broke both my hockey spring pieces in the past so I don't trust them but it is a good option! Quote
Lakop Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Hi All, A thousand thanks for the diagrams, pictures and links to steering configurations. I want to make a six wheeled (4 wheel steer, front and rear) moon crawler type vehicle. Medium sized to run around my floor and give it some terrain challenges. This is for me to practice with the remote and new motor. I will set to work. H Quote
Someonenamedjon Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 for 6 wheel steering you can look at how the 8053 steering is made. Quote
