therealjustin Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I recently purchased the new 42000 Grand Prix Racer set and after putting it together I am not that impressed. It looks very unfinished with the yellow and gray pieces, and the open areas around the cockpit and side pods make it look cheap so I'd like to make my own with a more realistic look. The suspension and the proportions of the car are completely off on the 42000. I tried doing a search on this forum but it won't accept a two character entry such as "F1" and Formula 1 comes up with hardly anything. Does anyone have any examples of modern F1 cars(meaning 2009-present) in Technic? Searching around I found this really nice suspension design but unfortunately it is six beams wide so it is very difficult to mesh it with the studless parts. I tried it with a five length beam but the shocks touch and with a seven it looks too wide for an F1 car. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1371825 And this one which is a pull-rod suspension: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=514884 Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) I can't think of any modern technic F1 cars off the top of my head..... It sound's above like you want to go for a 6 wide axles, but are having trouble building them in. Have you tried using thin liftarms to pack out a six wide axle/s? drdesignz Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I'm almost done with my F1 car, coincidentally. I recently bought a 42000 myself and took it apart the day after I built it, so that I could use the suspension parts to build my own design. I'd say it's a modern design, but it's also my own, so it's not based on an actual car. It might be considered too unrealistic for you. But you could get ideas from it anyway. I should have it finished tonight, or maybe tomorrow. I'll put pictures up when I'm done. In the mean time, look up RoscoPC on flickr. He has the best Lego F1 cars I've ever seen. Very impressive work, and also based on real life cars. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I stoped the F1 MOC to wait for the new 42000 hubs, now I have a lot of ideas, I will continue it... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74743&hl= Quote
therealjustin Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 I'm very new to Technic so even figuring out where to start is a bit daunting. I'm just trying to get some ideas from some of the talented builders around here and on other sites. The hardest part is building something by seeing one or two photos or renders, but I did manage to get something close to the first front suspension I posted albeit with the new wheel hubs. The problem is the new hubs make the wheels stick out too far. Quote
