Dreadredbeard Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I've always been a fan of old International Harvester trucks, so for my first MOC I wanted to make my favorite version, a Scout 800 Half cab: It's a little rough because the only Legos I have so far are from these sets: 2x 9398 2x 8110 1x 8043 1x 42006 It's a small collection so far but it is growing! For the drivetrain I used 2 of Efferman's dual "L" axles with independent servo motors front and rear, connected to 2 V2 receivers to a single battery box. The suspension is of my own design, originally it was a design of forced articulation, but after a few too many failed attempts I used a dual spring cantilevered design. I hope no one minds aftermarket tyres! Finally the body was made from panels. I would have preferred to use studded legos to add more detail, but my collection does not allow for that yet. Also the orange corner panels were a requirement because I do not own any in black, white, or grey. Also, with the body on the frame there was very much play in the body, so the springs on the very front and very back of the model are simply to hold the body on straight. They do drastically lower performance so I only have them connected for display. Without further ado- Quote
legomuppet9 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 First of all, trust me that is definitely not a small collection Your off roader looks great, but you may find that the suspension travel is so much it causes the whole thing to roll sometimes, otherwise great job Quote

Hence why I add the extra springs when the body is on. Honestly I prefer to play with it with the body off , but it displays better with the body for sure! I am very happy with the amount of Technic blocks I have now, I simply wish I had more standard legos, I think I could make a much better body with standard legos compared to the panels. Thank you very much for the input and compliment! Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I was expecting more of a pick up look to a off-roader type body. It's a good start for your first model. Quote
timslegos Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Great looking MOC for a starter. I would love to see a video of it driving, it looks plenty capable. tim Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) Very nice first moc and like your body , only you must work out your suspension and springs, there is to many force on it Edited March 27, 2013 by VFracingteam Quote
