Hi,

I want to step into a world of Lego RC cars, I don't have any Power Functions yet, and I've got just a couple of small Technic sets. I want it to be a long time or endless single car project with modifications over the time. I'm looking for something ike this:

So I have several questions:

1. Is getting a 9398 Crawler essential for my situation? Maybe getting PF and some parts or other car set(s) from Bricklink?

2. Control unit - 58122c01 or 64227 ? I see that 58122c01 is used mostly.

3. Battery box - 84599 or 54950c01 with batteries and an external charging device, or to use non rechargeables?

AKM_76 First of all welcome on EB(eurobricks).

1. Not essential but a very good start, mainly because of the PF elements, that is the PF L motors are now regarded as the best drive motors and with good mounting points. Secondly you get a PF Sv, which over time will save you a lot of trouble makeing another solutions to steering. And then there is the V2 IR R/C unit. But do keep in mind that there are roumors of a upgrade(or second edition) pf m motor that better matches(or Works) the new v2 ir unit - find the story over at http://technicbricks.blogspot.com

2. Easy it the 58122c 01, that is the best unless you take in to account those remotes that people build which uses both. Mainly because the latter has the advantage of giving steep ir commands, while the other works with speed dials, then you risk you car driving away todo it being out of range of the remote.

3. It depends on how much Money you are willing to Invest in it, the big 9V box(6 x AA) has the advantage of giving the higest voltage but also being the biggest, and most expensive todo it need refresh batteries. Of note is it that frome time to time people have dream of coubling several box together, either in paralle or serial connections.

Welcome to EB!

I would suggest you go on bricklink and get the items needed, such as beams, wheels, hubs, pf, and shock absorbers.

Btw i hate how people show off their suspension for like 5 minutes every video!

No, imho more freedom (much higher range outside because it's radio controlled and not infrared) and fun (higher motor performance if you use the RC buggy motor with the RC unit).

But RC system is quite expensive.

I would agree Mbmc, the 9V rf system could have been the best. But I would have prefered a merge of the ir pf and rf. Mainly because I believes that not having power/speed control on the rf was a major flaw.

Primera vez aquí que leo algo en mi idioma y no lo entiendo  , ahora comprendo porque tenemos malosentendidos. Rm8 tú quisiste decir... por supuesto, amigo.

First time here I read something in my language and I don´t understand it  , now I understand why we have misunderstandings. Rm8 you mean... of course, friend.

Егор, привет!

I'm already in your great group in vk (Андрей Кузнецов), but hey, what for do I know English? ))) I enjoy the possibility of not being limited just by the local Russian-speaking Internet sector. Anyway thank you for the invite.
