Hello all,

This year i am competing in the 2013 robofest competition, as this is my first year, we were really new to robofest and how it worked, apart from one kid :laugh: (the one in the video). My team's name is Metal Robots and i am competing in the junior exhibition competition. As of today my team won first place in school competition of the 3 teams (originally 9 but 6 dropped out), so my team is moving on to state competition!

anyways, here is the video. NOTE: the person in the video is not me but one of my teammates.

What about wood?...... :snicker:

I am not into these robot contraptions,but this one is very good as it has to recognize the different materiel types.

I think a robot that could sort out different parts of lego would be even better,that would stand you in a even better change of coming first in the competition. :classic:

Thanks, i will also be updating as my team moves on...

I also started this project in november 2012. We were thinking this way because you can save a TON of money by doing this, and you can be nice to our local garbage men :tongue:

I think this is pretty impressive!

Not sure what your rules or budget are but if you get a chance check out these (image is clickable): bta-nxt_home.896.279.jpg

Schools often have Vernier sensors for data loggers and these adapters will allow you to incorporate any of these into your Mindstorms robots. They also make a sensor block if you are using NXT-G here: http://www.vernier.com/engineering/lego-nxt/vernier-sensor-block/ . This will allow you to use the Vernier sensors (like conductivity sensors): http://www.vernier.com/products/sensors/

How did you differentiate between the plastic and the glass? I'm not fully understanding what you mean by a proximity sensor... unless it is just like the Mindstorms Ultrasonic sensor???

No, it senses dencity in percent, so in the block programing it can show up as light level or sound level. It is the blue thing in the back of the first robot. They also alow you to do ANYTHING in exhibition, they encourage you to think out side the box and use other things.

We also wanted to impress the judges by using chips and not using already pre made sensors.

This is awesome. I want to say that there are containers that are made up of metal, cardboard, and plastic. (example: planters peanut container) How would this can get sorted.
