benjiii712 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Hello Eurobricks community, First of all I would like to introduce myself : My name is Benjamin and I live in Germany near cologne. I like building with Lego especially with Lego Technic. I am not focused on something special I rather build what I have seen recently. I have an account at Eurobricks for about 3 years but I only used it once..So now its for making my own Thread ;) First I would like to start with my crawler crane which I build back in 2011 I would be appreciate to hear some thoughts about it.. I have uploaded my Pictures on flickr: http://www.flickr.co...92218@N02/sets/ Username is Benji712 Hope you enjoy it Best regards Benjamin Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Welcome to Eurobricks Benjiii 712. Your crane looks very good so far along with your Mercedes truck on your flickr page. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Welcome at EB. I like your massive and very big crane . Is it stil togehter!?. Only your tracks looks it's little bit to weak whit that plates Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Your tracks looks like it's a little bit to weak with the long plates. I agree, you might have been better with two sets of tracks and then span both of those with plates. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Best benjii712, Thats what i ment what Alasdair just right. Quote
benjiii712 Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) Thanks for your comments @VFracingteam It used to many parts to leave it together ;) Year I experimented with some different track designs but the normal ones did not suite the massive size I think I have a video on youtube showing the crane driving so feel free to check it out In my opinion the best solution would be to build the tracks without the "normal" Lego tracks but that would require a huge part source an followed by that a lot monye wich i was not willing to spend at that point ;) Please excuse my english I try my best @Alasdair Ryan Yes what would have been another possibility Edited March 19, 2013 by benjiii712 Quote
D3K Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Hi, and welcome! Looks like there are some interesting projects on your flickr page! The "SPMT" caught my eye.. is it something like the ETF Mining truck? Quote
DLuders Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Here are the YouTube videos of the Lego Demag CC8800 V-3 Crane that Benjiii712/ Ben Klink is referring to: Quote
benjiii712 Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) @D3K Yes some projects are already a few months old but the SPMT transporter is still in one part and ready for additional upgrades ;) It would take me to long to describe the technics of these transporters but i will leave a link from the manufacturer site. Basicly they use the same technic as the ETFs but the trick is that you can coupple these modules to suit your needs They can handle some extreme loads as you will see on their site ...: http://www.scheuerle...CFQdc3godY0oAOg @Dluders Thanks for intergrating these Videos.. Next time I will try to do it myself but it will take some time to learn all benefits of this great forum :) Edited March 19, 2013 by benjiii712 Quote

piterx Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 wow, something huge going on! looking forward for other pictures :) Quote
aqaz Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Hello Benjamin, I was interested to see your trucks, this is my special interest. My goal is ultra realism, or as close as I can get, so I noticed something that will take seconds to alter.... Twin wheels have a gap in between, I see you joined your wheels with 3l connector pegs, you get the correct gap with the wheels at each end of the pegs rather than pushed tight together. Have a look at my Magnum here: here or Flickr So, I think your stuff is brilliant.... Can not wait to see how this Land Rover turns out... Good luck Quote
benjiii712 Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 Thanks guys for the great comments so far @aqaz I have seen your very detailed truck already i really like it espeally with the graet snot-technic you used it is also in my interest to build very accurate and like the real thinks Quote
zux Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 The front of your Land Rover looks very realistic. And I see your model will be rather big. Keep on going! Quote
rm8 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Cool. Scale will be about 1:8 -1:9, right? Why don you build frame and chassis first? Quote
benjiii712 Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 @rm8 Thanks the frame is nearly finished but i could not wait to try out some ideas for the body Quote
benjiii712 Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) Today I finished the frame and made a little test drive...I melted the clutch and found out that I have to simplify the drive train to make it more efficient :) I also thought about switching to 2RC motors for drive. Edited June 8, 2013 by benjiii712 Quote
piterx Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 lol i don't think that 2 rc motors can solve the problem :P Quote
timslegos Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I love the looks of the front lights so far, the tires look great too. I am looking forward to more! tim Quote
benjiii712 Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 @piterx haha yes it was just an idea I uploaded a video on youtube showing you the rainforced frame.. Quote
GuiliuG Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Can you explain me how does work the gearbox? I don't understand how you can have four different speeds using only one servo-motor ( with three 'stop' positions). Great project by the way. Quote
benjiii712 Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 @GuiliuG The servo is just for testing and as you already noticed it can only shift 3 gears When I'm finished I will use a different mechanism :) Quote
benjiii712 Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) I made more progress but it is harder then I thought ;) I hade to redesign the whole suspension setup because the turntables I used had just to much friction :( I used this chance to switch to a McPherson type suspension like in the real Landrover. I will also add better mounting points to make the chassis stiffer A friend of mine recently bught one therefore I had the possibility to take a look under the real car : I hope you like it :) Best Greetings from sunny Germany Benji Edited June 17, 2013 by benjiii712 Quote
