I'm not sure if there is a topic on this or not but I was lokking around S@H when I saw that the old custom trains (the ones that came out in 2001 that you could order what color, size, and tender you wanted) were back on S@H! you can see them here. (but they only have the small ones |-/ )

Neat little trains

I'm not a train fan tho....

The high speed locomotive looks nice tho, !female minifig!, nice slopes, windows

except it has those train wheels that I wouldn't be needing...

Train guys: do the train wheels and axles separate from one another and the 'wheel frame' thing?

the wheel frame could potentially be a Space greeblie of some kind if the wheel's were removed

is that axle, once removed the same thinkness as a lightsaber rod?

This is the part used in the "my own train"-sets and the thing you are talking about: 2878c01.png

So sorry - it

What about this similar piece?

Are they actually different parts?

In all sets it come together as one part, but it is no problem to take it apart from eachother.

actually, that is an official piece all to itself in the RC trains. they are different than the original 9V pieces in that the wheels detach.

(reference LEGO.com PaB, each component is sold separately ;-) )

though, im not sure why LEGO made this life-altering *wacko* manufacturing decision, as it doesn't change anything :-D i guess, it just raises piece counts in the sets... makes you feel like your getting more :-/

But if you ask me: Nothing can be compared with the larger steam train 10205:

This one simply ROCKS! *wub*

I like the smaller one better :-P

I bought a small one in black and then found the brown kit in the Hamburg LEGO store and bought it. Now this is my "christmas train". I think it looks quite nice, even without modifications.

I dunno why LEGO didn't follow up with more models. For AFOLs they might not be perfect, but they were a great start to collecting trains or add to your existing ones...
