rumpletump Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Hi Guys I need some help.. I have a motorized Input and the output will be to drive the wheels of my new project. I want to make a one way clutch type setup so when the motor stops the wheels can still free wheel (so my vehicle will roll under momentum).. Does anybody know a simple solution to make this happen? I have 2 x diffs of the type found in the 9398 and an assortment of gears at my disposal. Cheers - Henry Quote

rumpletump Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 That is a good idea. I was hoping for a more "gears only" solution using diffs. Quote
Bzroom Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I dont think you can do this with just gears. You need friction of some kind, and a lot of it. You could probably put the input shaft in one end of the diff, and the output shaft out the other, and then lay a ratchet onto the gear on the diff housing. This way, torque would push into the ratchet and be transferred through the internals when the motor drives, but when the drive-shaft back-drives, the diff housing would spin and the ratchet would click, click, click. Driving your vehicle through diff gears is likely going to break something I imagine though. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Why don't you just use a ratcheting system like in 9396? I'd show you a picture, but I'm currently on my phone, which hates the site. Quote
rumpletump Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 @ Saberwing40k... Yeah I know exactly what you mean, That is my back-up option. I was just putting it out there to see if any other solutions exist. Quote
Nazgarot Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Hi, At least one other solution exists. I don't know who made this, but it an ingenious idea. It works just like the clutches of nitro rc cars. If you want a tougher locking of the clutch you can use 8 tooth gears to make it engage when the motor starts. My version with gears locking it (I could not make it allign with 3 clutch shooes, so I reduced it to two). The red axle goes to the motor, and green to driveline: -ED- Edit: Just found the homepage of the maker: http://p-lego.blogspot.it/ He presented the clutch on Eurobricks a time ago along with a 3+R gearbox. http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=77753 Edit 2: After I got of the jjob network I found a good picture (was blocked by a firewall) Edit 3: Included my own version.
