Aitoruco Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 León Cathedral is a temple of Catholic worship, the Episcopal Diocese of León, Spain. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Regla. Initiated in the thirteenth century, is one of the great works of the Gothic style, French influence. Nicknamed Pulchra leonina, is located in the Camino de Santiago. Due to its construction and its ongoing reforms to the nineteenth century the cathedral was about to sink and disappear, but the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando took over the rebuilding of the temple between 1850 and 1900, leaving the cathedral in the present state, problems had disappeared stability and construction. The cathedral is based on the design of the cathedral of Reims, having a smaller plant and, differing mainly in the towers are separated from the main front (western gable) giving vision feature that makes it unique. But above all, is known for being the only cathedral in the world that has its original stained glass windows. The creation is made exclusively in LDD, because of the size of the building and the number of pieces (more than 38000). Attempts have been made to follow scales, being similar to minifig scale. The creation process has taken more than two months of study, preparation and review of plans, and visits to the building, and more than three months of continuous construction and rendering. front back clock tower bells tower cloister museum Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Very nicely done Aitoruco! This must have taken some time to design. You did very well, it looks fantastic. Too bad you won't be building this, but at 38,000, I can see why not Quote
Wedge09 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 *huh* Impressive and awesome work  I really like all the detailes you put in, good luck if you have an idea to make it with real bricks Quote
harton Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 This is really awesome! I was not expecting this after seeing the picture of the cathedral, and only the cathedral, not all the complex. Of course there are too many details to look at, so I'll go with a general question: you have render it, how many times does it took you. I use to build to for my pleasure and sometimes for work on LDD and I got to say that this is one of the best LDD MOC I've seen, you should share it with the LDD section of the forum, I'm sure they are going to like it, no doubt! Again well done! Quote
theDeanoRama Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 wow, 38k! Even a small fraction of that would probably drag my lappy to a screaming halt This is all really amazing work, I especially love the treatment you gave the brickwork and roof of the cloister Quote
prateek Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Oh wow. The detail is just astonishing, and LDD high graphics makes it look even better! I love the roof, and the cathedral's decorations are great. Now to build this in real life... Quote
Bregir Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 *drops jaw, then bows down to pick it up* I am amazed... Quote
Aitoruco Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Thank you for post. Rendering spent my time for 3 weeks, each rendering took more than 2 days and in the post i´ve only show the best of them. build it is very expensive so probably we´ll try to build like a lug´s job P.D.: if someone mod could send the post to LDD section i would be very grateful Quote
ER0L Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 As already said on Flickr this is really amazing, the shaping is gorgeous, and there is a lot of NPU going on everywhere. Surely it would look still more amazing in real bricks, but rendered like this I think you can get a very good impression of the whole thing. Really really great job on this! (Concerning the stained glass windows of the original cathedral: As far as I know there are several cathedrals which still have at least some of their original windows, e.g. Chartres, Bourges, even Cologne. Maybe it's the cathedral with the highest percentage of original stained glass?) Quote
Aitoruco Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Er0l Thanks for the comment. In reference to the windows, there are very few cathedrals keep 100% of the original windows. Many have a percentage but 100% the have very few, including this cathedral, Chartres Quote
Redhead1982 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Wow! That's an impressive design! Would be great to see it in bricks. You did a great job! Quote
