Praiter Yed Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Here is a MOC I've entered (or tried to) into the Brick Fanatics CMF Series 9 Diorama Building Contest. I actually have a slight overhang over the 16x16 plate size so will need to alter it to actually enter the competition oops. This is slightly disappointing as I've already made several compromises to my original vision - lets be honest, this crappy CMF sword is not Excalibur - I really wanted to use a Brickarms Claymore. But for now here is the current layout which was very much inspired by Aubrey Beardlsey's illustration from Sir Thomas Malory's Le morte D'Arthur... Devorath Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Very nice! I would put some trans bricks in the water though. Quote
cortman Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Nice! Why not use, say, a sword from LOTR? Those models are much more realistic looking. Quote
Wedge09 Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Really nice work, very well detailed  Quote
Bighappysmiles Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Wow! this is very nice! I agree that the claymore would be a lot better! Stupid contests not allowing brickarms...... Smiles=) Quote
Wout Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Very nice. He only looks too happy for someone who just lost his king and friends. I rent a couple of weeks ago the "Excalibur" movie from 1981 and there reminds it me also from. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Very nice! I would put some trans bricks in the water though. Thanks. I don't have many transparent bricks but I considered a couple of other ways to build this: 1. Using window pieces which would have been very transparent with me having to build the lake bottom, which I didn't want. 2. Using trans 1x1 round plates which you see done a lot and I think could've worked well. In the end I went with bricks and plates in an attempt to mimic the source illustration. Nice! Why not use, say, a sword from LOTR? Those models are much more realistic looking. Ahh, you must be a purist . Yes, the LOTR swords are nice but the pommel doesn't fit in the minifig hand - so couldn't hold the sword straight up. And thanks. Really nice work, very well detailed  Cheers Wedge09 Wow! this is very nice! I agree that the claymore would be a lot better! Stupid contests not allowing brickarms...... Smiles=) Thanks. To be fair Lego are providing the prizes so I suppose it's understandable. Very nice. He only looks too happy for someone who just lost his king and friends. I will change the face when I update this. I haven't watched Excalibur for many years but I still think it's the best movie adaptation of Arthurian Legend to date. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Very cool vignette, the water looks great and the arm design works well Quote
Brickington Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 This looks great! To bad you need to compromise it. Quote

To bad you need to compromise it. Cheers. I had the idea to build this before I knew about the contest, so really I could have gone ahead and built it how I wanted. I'm such a huge contest whore that I chose to make some compromises so that I could enter - I only have myself to blame. Quote
