I have had a lot of trouble making custom weapons. Many of them do not turn out to well, and the ones I do make are basic. I want some help on making a custom weapon. Tips would be very beneficial.

I can guide you to this guy's majhost account who made a bunch of custom weapons. (Note these are not mine)

Haha, you're the first person I've seen who has linked to KZ's brickshelf. I'll tell him.

Just don't get too hung up on one thing. Start smaller; BIONICLE overspecializes itself when it comes to later weapons, so don't try necessarily using any of those pieces.

My advice is to just use a couple of basic technic pieces plus some of the smaller weapons (those used by Matoran are especially useful for this purpose).

The best tip I can offer is that if you're going to use any pre-existing weapon pieces, let their shapes and textures inspire you. Just sticking a bunch of blades together rarely yields a refined-looking weapon, but choosing to use weapon pieces with similar textures, or ones with shapes that complement each other, can result in a weapon that feels almost as though the parts were designed for it.

The thing is, Hero Factory weapons aren't really any better. I've tried to make weapons with technic pieces and such, but they only work for the smaller ones.

It's true, a lot of HF weapons are fairly specialized. The shapes are sometimes more versatile, but they have very few connection points, making customization a bit of a hassle. Still, you can accomplish a lot with either theme's weapon pieces as long as you're paying close attention to how well they suit the weapon you're trying to build. The best weapon pieces to use are often the ones that are shared by several sets since those won't stand out as belonging to any particular official character.
