Chorduroy Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Hi Train Techies! This is my first attempt at designing and building my own locomotive. I chose a Ferromex SD40-2 because I thought I could pull off the paint scheme in brick. Obviously, this method has some flaws. The real problem is the cab/nose though ... Anyway, thought I'd see if anyone had thoughts/feelings - it will continue to be a WIP for a while until I fix the awful cab. Bamos Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) I believe the nose looks too tall because the two Battery/ Mechanical boxes are missing on both sides of the short hood. Also I think Ferromex short hoods are black with a red stripe and the brake wheel should be the left side . If you add those it will look like the photo. Also maybe use white plates and add black tiles over it for the walkways so it looks like a black walkway with a white stripe on the side. What you have done so far looks great though. LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Nice livery and nice building technique! Quote
zephyr1934 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Yes, that is a very good start. I'd suggest building up a second version of JUST the cab and ignore the colors so that you can play with ideas to make the bricks fit the way you want them too without worrying about having the right piece in the right color. In almost all of my MOC's I have to to this technique to get something to work right. Though if you are sketching it out in a different color also keep an eye on bricklink for part availability and cost in the colors you ultimately will use, sometimes a small change in part can mean a big change in cost.
